Ikon filter, tiny?

Just got an Ikon evolution 3 carbon filter delivered and while the small size would undoubtedly be handy it doesn't fill me with confidence, it's only about 12 inches tall and 9 wide. Anyone else using one of these? Are they meant to be tiny? Do they really work? Have I been had?

Rating says 600m3 p/hr which is pretty hardcore I think. I'll give it a go and see how it does just surprised at it being so tiny considering my last few have been massive. If it does the job I wont complain.

Just wanted to return to this thread and say this carbon filter is the best i've used, easy. It's tiny and works much better than a can filter. Cost £85 but worth every penny.

I am having issues with my 6" can filter after only 5 months of work, and that surely cant be right.

Imagine how many bags of crushed crisps you could fit into a single pack. Icon use atomized activated carbon, budget filters use non-atomized carbon.

The crushed stuff is better because it increases surface area for air contact,

just dont drop it or use it backwards as a second filter or it may clog.

PhatFilters split into Icon and RhinoFilters, so when you buying an Icon filter your basically getting a PhatFilter.
good day.

My rhino filter i just got is pretty dam chunky though. Shorter than the previous cheapo one, but alot wider, and heavier.

Yours sounds alot smaller than mine, and if it works aswell, id much rather have a smaller one. Was it very heavy? Must go and have a lkook at one on the net.

So are ikon and rhino filters basically identical then?

Apparently so, they're each other's main competition anyway. No love lost between them apparently. It's very light yeah. Says on the website they last 24 months too.

The new plastic ones with the carbon filter element inside & looking like a big car air filter, are certainly a hell of a lot lighter, i wouldn`t mind trying one of those out.

Hay up guys yes my old filter lasted me about 2 years was the same size as yours 12 inch by 9. I have now upgraded to the larger 6inch rhino, think its a meter long 12 inch wide. I know its a meter long tho. I went for the larger one so it should last longer only pulling threw 60% of what it can handle. Ive now moved the older filter in my veg room

Rhino and mountan fresh are the 2 best filters on the market

I'm really pleased with the rhino, i got one of those collars aswell to make a really good airtight fit between fan and filter, and there is not a whiff of smell coming out. Definately a major difference from my old filter which was knackered and was letting allsorts of stinks out.

Says the rhino ones are good for up to 3 years, so i'm hoping its as good as they say. Mines the 5 inch version, and my only gripe is its quite heavy. Apart from that its short enough to not take up much room and thick enough to look pretty sturdy and well made.

Phat Filters Update 21st June 2008

This update is intended for Phat Filter distributors/retailers and/or customers in UK.

It has come to our attention that Ikon International (our previous Phat Filter distributor in the UK) has misled customers in the UK by selling counterfeit filters under the Phat Filters name.

On the 24th November 2007, a motor bike accident took my partner, Mr Willem Van Den Broek’s life.

While we were all mourning for the loss of Mr Van Den Broek, Ikon International had a different agenda.

Ikon tried registering the Phat Filter as its own trade mark in the UK but later had been forced to withdraw its application by legal authorities As an Ex Distributor of Phat Filters in the UK, what Ikon has done is both unlawful and unethical.

Ikon should never have claimed the ownership of Phat Filter, as Ikon was merely a Phat Filters distributor.

It is a shame that Ikon has brought this upon themselves.

Ikon’s false claims have misled customers resulting in the sales of counterfeit filters in the UK.

This notification intends to alert customers who are buying these counterfeit filters, and are vulnerable to the quality compromising nature of counterfeits.

To find out exactly what a Genuine Phat Filter looks like see the section "Genuine Phat filters"

Saying that my Ikon filter works fine!! I bought it prior to finding this out or I wouldn't have given my money (indirectly) to such a morally vacant company.

Theyre good filters...basically, Ikon were the uk distributor for Phat filter. Unfortunately the Phat filter man died in a motorbike accident, and left his buisness to his fiance. Ikon started making their own filters with the phat name. Rhino filters is the old Phat filters-with the new name because there was some messiness about the trademark meaning both companies could use the name legally(as far as it was explained to me) and Ikon filters are just as good, same carbon, although I believe its a smaller grade of carbon. I know several ppl running both and theres no difference.
About the size, the Phat filters were always much smaller than equivalent rated filters made by other companies, it was one of the main selling poiints.
Edit Personally Id buy the Rhino as Ikons shadyness just doesnt sit right
