how are you keeping track of water level ? why did you put this in hydro section ? what are the ropes made of ? feeding water from the bottom is a great technique. i used earth boxes with great results.

thanks supermanlives.
the roots do grow down the ropes into the water, so I figured its a hydrid technique. the ropes are synthetic but still absorb water. I have a 1.5 in fill pipe and I can check the water that way.yea bottom watering is cool.
have you seen the earthbox blumat knockoffs?
SL I'm also rockin a design that has 3in. drainage pipe in a tote.pipes are in the bottom one has a 90, attached to the fill pipe, organic nutes in the top of the soil, seems to be workin good.its the new simplified diy earthbox.

hey bro that sux, that shit corrodes ur plants. dont try and rinse it off thatr makes it worse, u gotta just wait.
spinosad works very good for mites and thrips, imho, does not burn or affect flavor in flower.
good luck mg

My only caveat for growing with wicks is that the plant can easily become root bound. The wick brings moisture to the medium. Usually as time goes on, the roots of the plant gather around the wick. If the plant becomes root bound, the plant will basically choke itself out be bombarding the wicks with roots. It happened to me a few months back where the roots gathered around the wick. The top of the medium seemed moist. When i took a look within the substrate, it looked like the plant was trying to choke out the wick and cutting off the water supply to itself in the process.

thanks zbenji. I do have 20 wicks and roots are growing into the water, maybe that will help.
this girls buds are forming faster than my widow in a smart pot.

Great Job

Great Job

Cyat -
Despite the negativity of some of the earlier posts on the thread, I think this method you have proposed and tested is worth following up on.

First off, just to clear up some confusion over the h2o2.
As im sure many of you know h2o2 kills bacteria by releasing it's extra oxygen atom. once this is released, you are left with water and oxygen, meaning that the h2o2 in the system can be exhausted.

I think primarily what Cyat was trying to do here was to keep the bacteria levels in the reservoir and wicks down. Even if the h2o2 made it up the wicks, it would probably only effect the medium within the immediate area of the wicks, and not the entire 5 gallon bucket.

Cyat, this is good stuff man. Props for keeping it simple

Geez, cyat....sorry, I missed the reply there. Really nice effort, regardless of the product outcome. Certainly helped me broaden my horizons. Thank you!

And yeah, the whole H2O2 confusion......uggh......I'll spare my usual rant, but I'm on your side FWIW.

Would someone please say something. Either here or in another thread in the organic hydro section. My name's been pasted up there in the main forum menu for days now, and I'm starting to get a little self conscious. Thanks in advance!

something

relax junglie

some passive hydro thoughts:

autopots have been used taken apart and reconfigured to irrigate kdidee pools, and then removed again. they now live in a pile in the garage with random hydro parts. they worked allright i just prefer to throw a bucket of nutes in the pool every couple days. the autovalves have em soaking constantly except for 20 mins. every time they finish the water. I prefer this method with the "green" cloth shopping bags. they hold a lot of soil and work the exact same as huge smartpots but theyre a buck. everywhere was sold out for a couple weeeks. I wonder why? a lot of green shoppers I guess:) the vons compost seems to be flying too......hmmmm, i'm almost tempted to try it. these bags are killin the buckets! roots grow out most where the bags touch......i wanna put foam in between em and or rocks, see if the roots will spread out.

take care jungle blaze one up
