THIS THREAD AND GROW HAS MOVED TO https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?p=4549225#post4549225

hit fell apart, and it's now rebuilt.

-------------------------------------

well! i just wrote this post, and then had to relogin when i hit Submit.

sigh...

so, i haven't publicly documented a grow since '06 or so, but i'll lay this one down as i intend to carry on and tweak this specific setup. havent done a tent in some time...

---toys

so, i picked up some toys at the store today, here's the list.

4x4 DarkRoom tent. 3' 11" internally. i've only used hydrohut, then hydrohut silvers in the past but i wanted to save some dime on some (imo) non essential quirks.

1K Quantum digi ballast. digilux HPS and eiko MH bulbs. i'll ramp the plants up 500 > 750 > 1000 watts on MH. i'll be growing the plants into the frame for 2 weeks on the MH and into the first 2 weeks of flower, then digilux HPS on from there.

decent aircooled hood 6" flange. nothin much to say about this piece.

6" in-line fan.

quad output piston air pump. it's a bit overkill for the 3-4 tubs i'll be using, but the plants won't be hurt by crazy amounts of DO (dissolved oxygen). i am looking forward to their crazy amounts of BO though. :)

some GH micro and flower nutes. i'll be going Lucas Method on this one. pro tek silica additive used, and pure neem oil as needed, if needed. i'm keeping it simple. i may use an additive or two later, probably not for the first few runs to establish a baseline.

---the girls

well, i'm not sure on the numbers yet, but i have some sensi star, a chemdawg, and a few skywalkers. they'll be in their own tubs so as to tailor their res requirements as needed for each strain. 20ish gallon rubbermaid tubs are likely, with a screen attached to each tub lid. i attach a square made from 1"x1" wood to each lid, to brace it and add stiffness, for when the plants get heavy. makes lifting the lid to look/work a bit easier.

---setup

the box will be in a room (amazing, i know). i'll have a window A/C next to it, keeping it cool via ducting. i'll have a carbon scrubber hung in the tent, along with either a 20lb tank or carbon bucket. the hood will draw/exhaust from outside the tent.

although i can run higher temps with the co2 in the picture, i'll need to keep the nutes cool, so i'll have the a/c set to low-mid 70's. i'll have a sheet of radiant barrier material set between the tubs and the canopy, to keep radiant heat from warming the tubs.

---

well, i'll get started tonight or tomorrow on the assembly.

and a hat tip to Dutchgrown, Skunky Sam, too many numerous others, a prayer for DrJ, and i pour some nutes out for our old Overgrow treehouse that was.

be safe out there

I'm starting a grow in the same size tent. I'm having problems with positioning my carbon filter(How the filter is connected to the fan-reflector-exhaust). Can you post a picture with how you have yours set up in your tent?

Thx & good luck!!

im pretty sure he rockin co2 so ya want the filter inside the tent... on a seperate like fan here... i added some duct to the fan which now blows up the fallin co2 with the cleaned ait...... and helps circulate the tent as well... if ur not using co2 u can put the filter outside the tent and suck the air and heat out and clean it to not the most efficient for filter but works fine and saves a shitload of space... u can also have it got filter fan light or filter light fan... theres lots of ways to configure it to make it work,,, u just gotta see what works best for ya style... goodluck

well, the best laid plans.... hahaha

due to a changed situation, i've tweaked the setup a bit. i ditched the tent and built one myself, 9'x5' pvc with 1x3's cross bracing as a frame and panda film.

added a 600 watt quantum between also, with a MH in that. trying out a Sunleaves air pump (600gph, damn!) instead of the GH one.

i havent draped the tent with an insulating layer yet, but temps are so-so as it is. air is fluctuating 77-65 from day/night. i mean the ambient heat of the room the tent is in, in the day and nighttime. lights are on 24. the res hasn't risen above 72, and seems to be staying under 70 for the far majority.

the light is at 50%, emitting 300w MH, plants in plain water. they've been sitting in a stasis spot waiting for the grow to start, so i'm acclimating them slowish. they were under a single 23w cfl, in aerated plain water.

24hrs under 300w and theres visible root growth out of the netpots. cool beans.

pictured is a chemdawg upperleft, skywalker far right, and sensi star and skywalker (different sky cuts) in the middle. the two bottom left ones are sensi.

they have a different sensi cut joining them, and some green crack & blue dream. the GC & BD are fresh cloned in their rockwool cubes.

this pic is immediately when they entered the room. they're perky and upright now. nutes are next with a bump to 450w MH.

well, as stoney said, i'm runnin co2 so my filtration will stay in-tent.

of all small grow styles i've done, filter placement has pretty much been something like this:

large enough space/plant layout, filter on floor (in grow area/tent) running to light (if aircooled) and then air exiting that space.

what problems are you having? i really can't recommend anything specific without knowing what your problem is. roof won't support filter, fan...no room on floor... ?

in a 4' tent, i hang the filter, blow the air through the light, and out of the tent. openings on the bottom of the tent as passive intakes.

in small grows its nice positioned up top, you're pulling hot air (that has risen) into the filter and blowing it out of the tent, and bringing cooler air from the lower vents. you can really put your fan anywhere ... if you're using inline fans. even a small 4" vortex pulls almost 400cfm, so the fan can be wherever...strapped to the top of the filter is common.

best of luck friend.

and to you also ruger & stoney, be safe

Did you build those hydro buckets or did you buy them? I'm currently doing a soil grow but am quickly learning that transplanting isn't that fun. I want to do some type of DWC bucket style hydro next time.

that's just a plastic container, like a 20 liter one. i acclimate plants in smaller shallow containers so i can maintain the nutes easily. thats 7-8 gallons, so not too much water to mess with.

i usually use 18-25 gallon rubbermaid tubs for my plant buckets.

WELL.

this thread is over. i'll resume it in another thread in a few days. 3 plants have mites (no big deal, barely noticeable, neem and co2), and to kick it off, my FUCKIN BUCKET FELL OVER!!!@@!@11!

man, fuck that.

the rubbermaid it was on top of, couldnt hold 6m gallons of waters' worth of weight, and one side buckled, the 7 gallon shallow tub just fell over.

i found it some hours after it happened, lots of dry roots. no dead plants, but lots of time to get back to where they were, just about to jump off.

the 4 fresh clones are fine, the big chem dawg will bounce back quick, and i'll pick up some more clones tomorrow.

i'll just nurse the crippled ones and keep em as moms till i grow them out.

i'll post the new thread link here.

peace

no, i'm not worried

:)
