Dr. Jack Kevorkian, the Michigan pathologist dubbed "Dr. Death" for his role in assisting the suicides of more than 100 terminally ill people, died early Friday, his lawyer said.
Kevorkian, 83, died at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., where he had been hospitalized subce last month with pneumonia and kidney problems.
The lawyer, Mayer Morganroth, said it appears Kevorkian suffered a pulmonary thrombosis when a blood clot from his leg broke free and lodged in his heart, according to the Detroit Free Press.
"It was peaceful. He didn't feel a thing," Morganroth told the newspaper. According to the Associated Press, he said nurses played classical music by Kevorkian's favorite composal, Johann Sebastian Bach, before he died.
Morganroth says Kevorkian was conscious Thursday night and the two spoke about leaving the hospital and getting ready for rehabilitation.

Kevorkian spent decades fighting the system in an effort to bring terminal patients a measure of dignity & comfort where none was available before, although his means would result in death (peaceful & welcomed) it is not so unlike the battle that many medicinal cannabis activists wage every day.

R.I.P. Doc

Dr. Kevorkian did so much to fight for dignity in death, for all of us!! (Even though he said he did it for 'selfish' reasons, wanting to ensure that a process was in place, for if/when he faced it himself.) No one likes to think/talk about dying, but it's something everyone will eventually face and we all owe Dr.K a thank you for his tireless efforts and courage. Even if you don't agree with him now, when it's your turn to face this, you might see things differently...

Instead of "physician assisted suicide", we have hospice... (with the exception of OR.)
My uncle just passed...brain tumor. He was in incredible pain before he died and was in the hospital for the last few weeks of his life; they said they couldn't put him on a "IV drip" to alleviate his pain, b/c it would cause eventual organ failure. (He was terminal.) So, knowing they couldn't treat his pain appropriately, they finally put him in hospice...He died just 3 hrs after arriving.

What can be said about the living saints who work at hospice...There are no words worthy. They are absolutely amazing human beings.

We all should be grateful, to Dr. Kevorkian, a solider for human dignity.

I live in michigan....

I also watched more than one attempt to put the old boy in jail by various prosecutors....

The thing that always impressed me was how fervently he was supported by the families of the deceased.....

I would agree a brave man.... who did what he thought right even at great cost to himself.....

growing up in michigan, us kids always heard that he was a "bad guy" from all our square parents and teachers. Made death seem really scary to us. I always am grateful I was able to break out of that mentality!

Compassion, its a good thing!

Sorry for your loss. Your words are BRILLIANT!!
My better half works in a nursing home. I tell her all the time that she is way tougher than I am. No way I could handle the emotions of her job!
Thank you to all c.n.a.'s and hospice care givers, everywhere.
You are all much stronger than I am. :thank you:

It is sad, I just went through "hospice" for the last few weeks, my grandmother died a week ago. She had pancreatic cancer, she was 99 and had barely eaten in 4 months. She went from 130 to about 80-85 before she passed. I asked my mother "Why wouldn't they allow someone who is in pain and dying to just get assisted suicide?"
Then I found out about this man.

Hospice was there to do minimal things like help her shower, or clean her, etc. WE were the ones who tried to feed her, I was the one who took her to the bathroom, until she was bedridden. They brought her the bed, and that was it. My grandmother just kept saying "I want to die already," and it was sad to see her that way. It was sad to see that a human being had to be like that. She didn't have pain, so she wasn't suffering much, besides knowing that she was going to die soon. It's sad that people make such a big deal about suicides. It's like if people want to die that's their choice, it's their life. One of my best friends almost committed suicide, and they brought him to a mental hospital and he said they treated him like shit, because he was "mental." Who the fuck are these pieces of shit? Seriously......

This man helped a lot of people die in peace, it's sad this country is full of pieces of shit.
