Four-lined bug

What's the best product for getting rid of these things? Or, preferably, repelling them, as there are undoubtedly millions waiting in line to hop on the leaves and take over where the dead ones left off? They're chewing the crap out of my 10" seedlings.

This is a guerrilla grow in the bush, 43N.

I've had bad problems with the Four-lined bug- ate several Love Potions I had going a couple of years back... Some plants weren't touched.

Don't mess around- hit all surrounding veg with Sevin- try to spray the undersides of the leaves also. It's still early in the season so you still have a fighting chance before they call your patch home...

They are supposed to like mint. A few mint/sticky traps?

Toughen the plant? Add diatomacious earth to the soil or another silicon product?

Best of Luck in the Battle of the Bug.

They proliferate in cold, wet springs I was told by a local nurseryman, who suggested Malathion. I sprayed them down (and up) with Sevin, I'll see them in a few days and see what's what. Of course it poured rain right after I sprayed. Hopefully they'll run out their life-cycle soon and be gone. Thanks.

My FLOs are getting the worst of it, but the Blue Sattelites are completely untouched. DC is almost as bad as the Flo.

neem works really well as a preventative with those fukers. they dont like the taste of the leaves. a couple of total surface sprays in veg and they will leave your plants alone.
also, you can plant MINT nearby as a trap crop, they go apeshit for it. plant the mint before you plant the little ganja plants, and they 4 lined fukers will set up camp over there and leave your ganja alone until it is big enough to protect itself.

Yeah, I heard that about the mint as a trap crop somewhere else as well. I'll give the neem a try - thanks man.

Campfire, you might, "give neem a try", but i would consider my selection of pesticides carefully if you intend to grow guerilla for years to come. Guerilla's seldom have the luxury of "trying" stuff, simply because they only get to check on their plants ever week or 2. If you dont fix apparant problems then, when you come back in 2 weeks if your "hopeful" product didnt work then your plants may very well be done for.

First, i would suggest that one of the quickest measures of whether your growing an indoor strain is its suceptablity to pests. Indoor strains are litteraly pest magnets and many cant be grown outdoors because of that fact. Indoor strains are terribly suceptable to caterpillars and borers. A good outdoor strain seldom requires pest treatments.

Secondly, If i do have to treat, i make it count by using Rootenone/pyrethrins concentrate. It has knockdown power for the bugs on the plant and preventative qualities that last a week or more. Withing 14 days after spraying, the chemicals have nuetralized and are inert, but the bugs are gone and i dont have to give it a 2nd thought.

my thinking anyway.

I live around 43N and i have the same problem.. last year almost every single one of my plants got raped by them. this year i havent seen any but some bug has been chowing down on my lil girls... ill find out tomorrow if there are any signs as to what bug...

I have seen somewhere about using yellow sticky traps as bugs love to eat on dead leaves and will get stuck... idk... ill let you know if i find anything to help and ill keep checking back to see if you do..

D.S., do you have a specific brand you would suggest? When you use the Rotenone/Pyrethrin concentrate, do you follow their mixing/diluting directions?

I checked today, no more damage, but I did spot a couple of the little bastards hiding under the leaves.

I'd like to know specifically what you use, and how, if you'd be so kind. I DO have tough outdoor strains, but I've been wanting to give these new ones a go in the great outdoors for a while, mainly to hybridize with the tough ones - guess I'll see...

I use Bonide Liquid Rotenone/pyrethrins concentrate. I started using it about 10 years ago when i was growing some AK47 and boring caterpillars attacked. They can be hard to kill because they are inside the stem. This stuff kills them dead and every other bug that infests cannabis including whiteflies and grasshoppers. A dozen 2" grasshoppers can work a plant over but this stuff kills them on contact and prevents them for a week or so.

Its organic and no trace can be detected 14 days after application. I follow the directions for garden vegetables and i use it only when i have a problem. I seldom have to use it more than a couple of times. Ive applied it as often as every 3 or 4 days if the infestation is heavy and it rains. I wouldnt start the season without it. A bottle cost about 12$ and will last for several seasons.

I'll second the Bonide Liquid Rotenone/pyrethrins concentrate. I used it last year on DS Toker's recomendation.

I had C99 growing in a cornfield, and the stem borers and bud worms were really having their way with my plants. I sprayed them with the Rotenone/pyrethrins concentrate and really knocked them back. I reapplied it again a week later, but the damage was already done. In the end I probably lost about 30% of my yield, but hell man that's alot better than 100% dead plants! Captain Jacks Deadbrew is another good one that knocks out most bugs.

Check out Claude Hopper's thread for an exchange that he and I had, specifically post 83 where he talks about his syringe for injecting spray into the holes created by stem boring bugs/worms. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=4439879&postcount=83

Good luck with your battle with the bugs, all us guerillas need a little luck!

Thanks so much, guys, I'll take that advice, and read up on here more as well. Gotta do your homework, or else, apparently...
