my close family member would like to maybe start a veggie garden at the beggining of july, i told them it may be too late. but i was wondering what you all thought? is july too late for her to plant a relatively large vegetable garden in northern california, she has access to some 10 x 30 ghs as well. so yeah just wondering let me know!

thanks! :tiphat:

Even here in the great frozen. We can plant some things in July. I throw in some more snap peas and beans for instance.

A university that has an AG program will be able to supply you with a list of what and when to plant in your exact area. You can also take them a soil sample and they will be able to tell you what amendments you need for the soil to grow certain crops. My state helps me figure out exactly what my soil is lacking every time I start a new tomato patch.

only last month did i rip out all my peppers from last year. they were still fuiting but grew unruly so had to go.most plant s in so cal with full sunlight just keep going . but in offseason produce smaller and olot leess veggies.

I am still planting, and I am in the Northeast. It is not out of choice but because of lots of rain just when the soil is ALMOST dry enough, I keep getting thwarted, although I have gotten most stuff in in fits and bursts. I have to still put in the potatoes, squash plants, corn, and fall crops that I would not have planted yet anyway, but have plenty in too.

Carrots and leaf salads can still be sown, as a well as perennial herbs like chive, rosemary, and mint for next season. Plus mature plants could purchased from a garden outlet (toms , peppers, and squashes) and still grown outside this season :D

Ideal start working on improving your soil conditions now.. for next year :D

peace n veggies

Heres some of the things you can sow in july.

Radishes
beets
mangold
beans
peas
Salad
zuccinis
herbs
spinach
mizuna cabbage
rocket (ruccola)

Or maybe invest in some fruit trees or berry bushes?
