How do you avoid "weed hangover" and being burnt out

I used to have the same problem. Energy drinks, sativas and sativa hybrids, and clean bud do the trick for me. Also, not smoking as much and not smoking heavy strains. Maybe grow a light sativa for daytime smokes. Also, when I take memory/focus supplements(over the counter&I take em to help with studying and concentration) I noticed that some negative lingering effects aren't there anymore.

I used to face blunts of loud(y I don't know lol) and all it really took was a couple hits to get high. Also, getting important stuff done before smoking. Staying active. And honestly, I just realized I couldn't be high all the time anymore. Some people can handle it, but everyone isn't the same. Smoking only on weekends was the best choice for me in the end.

Lastly, from experience, it may seem like you can't quit but its totally psychological. Once you go a couple days without smoking you'll be wondering why you felt like you couldn't quit sooner. lol. good luck.

IMO, weeds not addicting, but you can be addicted to it; the difference is everything. There will be people here that will probably mock you for your problem; it's self-conscious posturing, so ignore it when it comes.

It's pretty clear you have a problem, man. You've said so and know it. Don't get caught up in the mindless rhetoric about how it's "not a drug," etc. That stuff is just as dopey and unscientific as the anti-drug campaign itself.

You've recognized it controls your life. That took some balls. Bravo. Now work on it, and get help if you need it.

Good luck.

+1. That's about the best way to put it. If you have an addictive personality, you can become more easily addicted to non-addictive things - if that makes any sense. It IS a matter of control. Who's in control, you or the weed? Used to be that when I had some wee in the drawer, shit I swear it was talking to me -and didn't stop. IT was in charge LOL.

i love smoking bud, im most likely addicted to it. i cant go a day without wanting to smoke weed, or even an hour. i think i like the act of smoking weed more than the high. the high is really good for like 30 minutes then just drops off and i feel super lazy and tired. how do some of you daily smokers manage to smoke so much weed and not take a nap every afternoon. coffee? exercise?

i only smoked 1 bong hit today and its been 2 hours and i already feel lazy and tired cant stop yawning. i got a solid 9 hours of sleep last night and i want to go back to bed. it happens with all different kinds of strains whether i smoke some jack herer or sour D i dont notice 2 much of a difference in the highs.

the weed i just smoked was some kind of trainwreck haze cross or something i dont know. looks hydroponic grown and didnt have much taste, really frosty nugg.

It's a hard one to answer man. I used to have the exact same "issues". Exactly the same! I would try to change everything I could, yet not set yourself up for failure by trying to quit outright. I really think diet is a big, big thing. It's been proven now how important fat is you diet. Because of the (unfounded) low-fat diet craze for the 70's-90's, a lot of people still think fat is bad - it's not! Only Trans-fats are bad. Animal fat is not harmful and should be a part of your diet. It makes you happy for one -people get depression from cutting out fat. Secondly it does not effect insulin levels. The sugar/insulin spikes and valleys will definitely leave you tired. Sugar=bad, fat=good.

#2 Quality sleep (emphasis on quality). Diet continued-don't sabotage quality sleep with bad dietary habits. So sure, drink coffee in the morning/all morning, but cut all caffeine after 12-1. I drink caffeine-free after lunch and a nice relaxing tea in the evening about a hr before bed. Do some KILLER workouts at least 3 days a week. They should be taxing enough that you sleep like the dead. Also - and this one is probably the best - get a hypnosis/deep relaxation track to listen to (ipod w/ earbuds) when you go to bed. It should/will release all the tension in you body.

#3 Change a few things about how you use. First - try a vape for a "cleaner" less lethargic high. Stick to sativas/hybrids (SSH is great) Maybe try to smoke less, or at least not in the mornings.

Yeah, I used to love the ritual (de lo habitual!). Used to love the first head rush of the day, and it went way downhill from there. The toughest part is to break the mental fixation. And I think the only way to do that is to carve out some new activities. You need balance in your life. Trying *not* to think of something doesn't work at all. Don't think about an elephant right now (right?) So what are you gonna do except get out and find new shit to occupy your mind. Start biking, golfing, anything.

You avoid a weed hangover by smoking sun up till sun down, when I used to just take a little morning bong or what have you, id be dying for a nap sometimes just falling asleep in the uni library. Smoke all day and im good, mainly just small bowls throughout the day.

cut down your smoking to friday and saturday afternoon/night. and take some melatonin before you go to bed, it really improves the quality of your sleep a lot because you enter the rem sleep cycle faster.

and like others mentioned before, try to improve your diet and excercise routine. all that constant herb smoking may have lowered your testosterone level and increased your estrogen level, a proper diet and excercise helps to get those values in the right range again.

but start by taking some melatonin before you go to sleep every night, it greatly improved my quality of sleep. the stuff is dirt cheap and you can get it over the counter at any pharmacy/drug store.

good luck, and i hope this helps you.

Wow.

Maybe smoking pot makes guys grow breasts.

WTF?! These old BullShit things still ingrained, even in pot smokers?

Timmy~ don't smoke yourself to sleep at night, and don't wake and bake. Get off your ass and get stuff done, just gotta conquer that and don't sit around unless you really don't have anything to do.

constant heavy smoker here. never had a 'pot' hangover, don't know what that is.(?)

anxiety may be excerbated by smoking immature bud, but is not the cause of it.

if you are addicted (tolerence extremely high) it may indicate a reduced ability for the receptors to cycle or 'cleanse' themselves of their burdens.

imo, just another bullshit piece by the propagandizers. consider this:

Marijuana, also known as cannabis, is abused more than any other illegal drug in America, according to the U.S. National Institute on Drug Abuse. When smoked or ingested, the drug's psychoactive chemical binds to numerous cannabinoid receptors in the brain and throughout the body, which influence a range of mental states and actions. One of two known types of cannabinoid receptors, called CB1, is involved primarily in the central nervous system.

"In conducting the study, researchers compared the brains of 30 chronic daily marijuana smokers to non-smokers over the course of roughly four weeks. Using molecular imaging, researchers were able to visualize changes in the participants' brains and found the cannabinoid CB1 receptors of the smokers had decreased by roughly 20 percent compared to the otherwise healthy people with limited lifetime exposure to marijuana."

...to be certain that the CB1 receptors had DECREASED, they would have to have known how many there were to bigin with, something they could not have measured since these were CHRONIC users!...compared to normal brains??? Who determines normal?

...these guys do!

Dont smoke the wrong strains at the wrong time....

If I wake and bake with strains like ChemD and Bubba Kush ..My day will be over b4 it starts..

Try not to smoke too late at night b4 you go to bed ...or you'll feel extra tired in the morning when you get up.... I smoke 24-7...the secret to not getting assed out...is smoke the right strains at the right time...and try not pace yourself and not go all out on your first few sessions... now that coffee is wearing off..time for a my first Bong Load of the day!

Lots of good advice here Timmy, and some maybe not so good. I'm just going to say that you and I are probably a lot alike. Well... 20 years ago anyways! First and foremost weed isn't addictive in the traditional sense. You may want it and think about it often but your body isn't going to shut down if you don't have it. That being said, there are other factors that are addictive. Some people just need to get fucked up all the time. This may be due to problems or responsibilities they are subconsciously avoiding, or maybe simple boredom. These people will likely turn to another substance if weed isn't available. Like you say, the act of smoking and the paraphernalia and the social aspects can be habit forming as well. You absolutely have 100% control over this, so just control it. It is that simple. I travel to see family out of state 3-4 times a year. Sometimes I drive and sometimes I fly. When I drive I bring a bit with me but don't smoke as much because of increased activity and decreased privacy. When I fly I don't bring anything and unless I go to see an old friend who is a smoker, I don't really think about it. Sometimes at night if I am outside enjoying nice weather or a sunset or something I think about it, but mostly not. I think most of us can do that without issue or much stress.

As I said, I am in my early 40's, and have been smoking since my late teens. A daily smoker for most of my life to be truthful. Traditionally I will occasionally day smoke, but mostly it is at night or at an event or activity such as music, hiking, biking, golf, etc. I have 2 very close, out of town friends who are big time all day smokers, and when I am with them on vacation we smoke all day every day. I can do this for only a couple of days before I simply don't enjoy the high anymore. I enjoy the contrast of being stoned vs being straight and I don't get that if I wake and bake for more than a day or two.

As was suggested, sativas are great for day smoking. Not all sativa's require 3 months to finish either. I run Apollo 11 for a daytime smoke and it is great at 8-9 weeks. As is Cindy, and there are some fastish haze hybrids out there too. Stay away from the Kushes and the other heavy indicas. Early harvest means nothing compared to strain selection. All you are doing by harvesting early is loosing weight, potency and buzz longevity in exchange for a slightly more up high. I also agree with the comments about not eating afterwards. Definitely eat first and then smoke.

So my suggestion to you is to not smoke during the day and when you do, monitor your intake. Don't try to smoke as much as you can because #1 you can only get so stoned, and #2 you will be needlessly raising your tolerance. Take a couple hits, and walk away. Then if in a few minutes you still want more go for it. If It is enough you won't be thinking about wanting more. Smoke sativas too and eat before you smoke.

Now if you truly are having problems quitting, then quit and don't smoke, and DEFINATELY stay away from any traditionally addictive substances like hard drugs or cigs or alcohol, because if you can't give up weed, you will really struggle with something that has really addictive properties. I can't tell you what a lifetime curse cigarettes have been for me. I have resigned to the fact that I will want them for the rest of my life and the only way to not fall right back into my pack and a half a day habit is to never ever have another one again. Sucks...

As for the pot hangover thing. I would say smoke less when you smoke. Taking huge bong hits or smoking big blunts doesn't make your dick bigger! I got a case of the morning stupids more often when I was your age than I have in recent years, and it may just be a matter of getting used to it, IDK.

Good luck making the right choices. I think you will based on what you have said so far.

*edit* this is from the standpoint of a rec smoker and MMJ use is a different animal. I'm not hating on anyone with medical need... or anyone for that matter.
