Should I get rid of my bitch cat?

Alright, the story is;

I got this cat from a family friend who just had a baby and needed to find a new home for their cat since the baby was showing signs of being allergic to it.

At first, the cat was great, friendly but not too friendly, used the litter box perfectly, etc...

One night the cat was using the litter box, making a brownie, and the ironing board fell over on top of her while she was pinching one off. After that night she would not put her brownies in the litter box, she just squeezes them out on the floor right beside the litter box. Well, small inconvienience for me, but I figured she would eventually start doing her business in the box after a little time. It didn't work. I then put her litter box in a different room, I didn't work either. So at this point I have a cat that will pea in the litter box and put her brownies on the floor beside it, wtf. Well, after a while she decides that she doesn't like peeing in the litter box anymore and starts peeing on the floor. The litter box is in an unfinished bathroom that no one ever goes in, so it wasn't that big of a deal, just go in there every few days and clean up and mop the floor, done.

Well, I got tired of doing this and tried many different things to get her to use the litter box again with absolutely no success. She always had this confused look on her face, ...like... ...what are you doing??? She just didn't get it.

Fast forward a few months later, I have to move to a new place. I move there and she starts peeing in the litter box again. Wow, was I happy. Short-lived it was, because she got tired of doing that real quick and started peeing in the corners of the living room, ON THE CARPET. The only way I could tell where she had pee'ed was by smell, cause once it dries, you can't see it.

I have tried several different methods of trying to get her to use the box and none of them work. Either they don't work or I just don't have the patience for them to work. To me, after 3 days of trying a new method, if I don't see any results, the shit did't work. I don't have the patience for anything longer.

So now, I'm at my wits end with this bitch of a cat. She will even pee right in front of me on the carpet, wtf. I would love to find someone with more patience or just someone who is magical with cats to adopt her, but from what I'm finding out the chances of that happening are slim to none. She is 9 years old and is spayed. I am starting to think my only option is to have her euthanized, but it seems a bit drastic of a move to take.

Anybody have any suggestions?

p.s.- I don't want to bring here to a no kill shelter where she will sit in a small cage the rest of her life stressed out. Thats worse than being euthanized.

Its one of God's creatures and therefore good, if nothing else pray for the patience to accept its defects - this works REAL good on people too ;)

When I was in Rome, Italy, the guestparent had a cat that peed in my rooms corners.
I got some red pepper or cayanne, and put it where she pissed. She would smell first before peeing, well a little hot up her nose and no more peeing there.]
For dogs some people use bad tasting mouthwash in spray bottle.

Otherwise, fuck her. Get a dog.

I have even bought a UV light to find the spots and use urine odor remover on them. She just finds a new spot, never in the litter box though. F'in shit devil.

she may have "learned" that cat litter is associated with danger, could try putting some compost in her litter tray instead, they like that.

I'll try that, cheap and easy. Cats do associate things that I wouldn't have thought of.

Kind of what I suspected, the price is reasonable though. I mainly got a cat because I thought they would be less maintenance than a dog. If I have to give my cat a pill everyday, what happens when I go out of town for a week? It may sound harsh, but I don't like her that much. She is really starting to ruin my appetite for pets.

Should I get rid of my bitch cat?

Poor thing sounds stressed.
May I suggest taking the little darling for a stress relieving camping trip in the great outdoors?
Maybe playing fetch or hide & seek will give you both some fun and new experiences. :bigeye:

I don't think she is stressed. She plays with her cat nip toy everyday and rolls around on the ground on her back. She also likes to eat fresh leaves from the cat nip plant. She lazily sleeps most of the day away with not a care in the world. She acts very normal for a cat. She is not spastic at all or scared. She will go outside for about 10 minutes at a time before she comes right back in, she doesn't like to be out there for long. She will act all nice at first to other cats that are around but then she turns on them and starts acting like a bitch and then they whoop her ass and I have to go break up the fight. I have watcher her do this several times. She has earned the reputation of bitch.

She has had these litter box issues going on 2.5 years.

My understanding is that once old kitties start to have uncontrollable bladder or are assholes about pissing, well they become shitty kitty pissers. And since they're cats and not dogs, they don't give a shit about your opinion.

I prefer dogs

Damn dude... that's a long time to have held this in! And you'r just now expressing it... ;-) That's a patient owner, no doubt.

At this point, it's totally a learned behavior... shit, in her little mind, she might think your cleaning the piss spots is 'fun' time for her... or 'quality' time where you are devoting attention to her.

No doubt, she associated fear w the box to start out, and then she never got a true break from that... no replacement spot of comfort. She prefers to do it the semi-open where she can see all around & nothing will drop on her while going. Very likely.

When the housing markets went to shit, lots of strays outside. Already took one in from a kill shelter... and this other one chose me & wouldn't go away. Took her in... great cat that was abandoned. Second week into having her, my male cat accosted her in the litter box... thinkin he was jealous... same issues as you ever since.

I had to get multiple boxes, and she is still not quite right... sometimes when I get home... you can tell she was holding it waiting for me to protect her while she pisses. No shit, I do it to this day. Now, seeing that I've been so attentive to her, she will start peeing outside the box again should it not be clean enough. Fucking particular cat... sensitive.

Doesn't mean she doesn't love & appreciate me... just psychological issues... well, a cat psychology that is.

I'm assuming that you've basically tried everything over the last two years? Do you have an open-top litter pan, or w a lid?

Somehow, gotta get into the cats head & try to help her out... no one will take her w the pissin prob... no kill shelters are slammed... then there's the kill em every week shelters... so...?

You could try to convert her into a outdoor cat, depending on where you live...??? Keep feeding & watering & playing with, just not inside.

Cats are crazy but we love them. We found two baby kitties 2 years back at a fireworks festival. Only reason I'm even awake is there is a neighbor cat in the backyard. We keep our cats inside. The male is whaling like a dog and the female is tryin to hiss loud enough for the other cat too hear her through the glass.

They are particular about were they litter, if the box isn't clean enough sometimes you'll find a small bit on the ground. Spoiled is an understatement. I could go on and on about story's

They need to feel love and given attention like anybody else. 1:ying:

The fact you've stood this for 2.5 years is patience indeed.

The last resort to cat training is starvation, and it does work, though beware of your fingers and wash your hands after handling food.

Cats are exactly like dogs in one regard atleast, if they are hungry enough they will do anything for food. So cat training and food should go hand in hand. If the cat does not pee in the box, the cat does not eat.

Also, I hope you are familiar with clicker training, basically you condition the cat to understand that a click means correct behaviour, and will be followed by food. So get a clicker, first start clicking just when the cat is eating or when you are giving her food to associate the click with food.
For the next stages, dedication is required. I suggest you get a week off work, a sack of weed, and lock yourself and the kitty in your place. Start starving the kitty, get high, and keep an eye on her constantly. Follow her even, if necessary. The point is to catch her every time she tries to pee or do a brownie, just like you would potty train a kitten. Then grab her by the neck and carry her to the litter box, put her in and try to keep her in. Put the box in a small room with a door, so she can't escape.

Eventually her bladder will be full, and she will have to go in front of you. Click several times at first, so she gets the jist of it, eventually 1click should do. After she is done, give her the treat (most cats dont like to eat when peeing) and spend quality time with the kitty. Repeat aand repeat, the cat will get it.

Good advice meoman.

I have tried the instant reward system before and it works for a day or two, then once she realizes she won't get a treat anymore, she goes right back to peeing on the carpet.

I would catch her in the act, yell no, calmly pick her up and carry her over to the litter box put her in it, pet her until she is relaxed, she then finishes what she was doing, then I immediately give her a treat, praise her, pet her etc...

I would do this when I caught her in the act and if I came home and saw she used the litter box, I would pick her up and praise her carry her over to the litter box, show her, praise her some more and give her a treat.

This works great, until I stop, then she stops using the litter box.
