It's actually based on English Curry. Katsu means deep fried cutlet, so you have chicken katsu or ton-katsu (pork)

Yes but english curry is based on indian curry, chicken tikka masala is still an english dish though.

They are still Japanese curries because that's where they were developed and we don't have anything like them in Indian restaurants or anywhere else.

friscofrqancis potatoe in curry actually originates in india not england, aloo chaat, saag aloo, aloo gobi are some examples. The way they soak up the flavour is lovely. I once cooked a thai green king prawn curry with chopped new potatoes and it was much nicer than with rice, the potatoes soaked up the sauce really well.

Where did I say adding flour for thickness was used in indian curries?

I'm just saying the deep fried katsu curries are japanese curries because thats where they originate, even if they take inspiration from other cuisine. You wont find them in indian or english curry houses. Spaghetti is still italian even though it was inspired by oriental cuisine... see my point. Not trying to argue mate.

I don't think I had ever eaten a curry till I was 18 or so, but know it's something I eat about once a week and one of my favorite dishes. Live without curry would suck.

Every Asian country I've ever been to has their own curry except Japan. The British introduced their fucked-up version of curry to Japan around 1900. :) I actually like it but it's very fattening. If you don't know it imagine curry mixed with flour.

Thankfully we have lots of Indian, Thai, and other South East Asian countries to choose from now.

I'm curious how many of you have ever tried curry, I'm sure the English members will have tried it.

What kind of curry is big where you are?

are 'put together curries are crap' but the indian curries! 'are a different kettle of fish'. vindaloo and madras are so hot there stupid, i mean like fire in the mouth!! numbness etc..
now masala is a good mildish one-but korma's beautifull APART FROM THE DAMN ALMONDS THEY PUT IN IT.

I made a "traditional" Chicken Vindaloo Paella last night... bloody lovely it was...

All you do is cook your curry as normal, but rather than cook plain rice served separately, you add in the Bomba Paella rice and 2.5x water to the curry, simmer for 25 minutes and enjoy some cross cultural munchie harmony.

Patak's curry sauces work really well sploshed about here and there on to Pizza too, it livens up supermarket bought ready made pizza no end.

curry's are nice made a homemade minced beef and chicken rogan josh last nite will be eating left overs for dinner soon yum miles better day after

Yum yum, curry is food of the gods! I absolutely love Indian vegetarian cuisine. I often experiment with all kinds of different home-made Indian dishes. Naan is also my favorite food along with curry. Have any of you tried samosas? They're delicious (if you like fried food) and very easy to make.
