Some general growing questions

Does anyone have a chart or information for the heights from canopy to bulb depending on bulb size, ranging from 250-1000w?
i cant seem to find it.

Also,

Does anyone see anything wrong with reducing light hours from 24/0 to 18/6, while in veg?
im sure this wont trigger flowering, but i want to be sure.

Double check distances by hand. Place hand, palm down, under lamp. Get hand as close to lamp as is comfortable (not what you can endure) That's your distance.

When switching to 18/6, do it cold turkey. Playing with lights everyday begs for trouble. A one time glitch does no harm.

i think there are a lot of variables that go into the height of the bulb.

You can keep the bulb as close as you want, as long as you keep the heat in check. I am pretty sure the light itself wont harm.

I have had air cooled hoods with buds touching the glass and no burned leaves.

Your maximum height depends on your hood, area trying to cover etc
