And this just might be a dumb American point of view but wouldn't the Netherlands wanna tell the E.U. to fuck off just for pride in being a sovereign nation. Americans would be outraged that someone was telling us what do, even it was something as minor as only effecting tourists, especially if it hit someones bottom line haha.
........

The USA has Federal and State laws.

Regarding Pot the federal law is telling every state what's up and the state can take it and/or make it worse, just not better/easier than what the federal law requires hence is is state legal to grow pot on a certain level in Cali but it still is federally illegal to do so.

Florida for example has worse pot penalties than what the federal law requires.

So your argument "Americans would be outraged that someone was telling us what do" it pretty much meaningless.

The EU can and does tell its EU members how to handle certain things just like the federal law is controlling federal laws in the United States. Each of the 50 states are very limited about modifying it.

The netherlands and their christian conservative government has been systematically legislating morality into the netherlands, it started with the banning of selling beer in coffeeshops then went to shutting down more than a third of the "window brothels" in the famed wallen red light district, then the ban on mushrooms in smart shops, and now shutting out foreign tourists from the coffeeshops. Might as well shut Amsterdam down from november til april.

I love going to Amsterdam. For the mediocre buds, great hash, and most importantly the ability to easily consume them, then screw lots of whores relatively safely and easily.
After several visits I can sum up the dam as the city that pushes you to saying "This place can totally blow me!" but then it CAN! So it all evens out.
Don't kid yourself the cafes could shut down tomorrow and that city would not miss a beat.
They are small potatoes compared to the money that surrounds them.
My last visit I was toking at the rokerij when one of the employees opened the front glass engulfing the street and a rich lady with two small children with smoke.
I said to myself "this is going to end soon".
I hope to get there one last time this summer.

how long have the coffee shops been around for? when did they start? and what do breeders think about this? are there not going to be any more high times cannabis cups?

fuck man! i hope you are right! by making these stories up, people slowly believe it. many i meet or know think that things are already like that in Amsterdam. they read these stories and believe it. i do hope the coffee shop owners are strong enough to stand up against these lieing bastards who use any means to make progress towards changing the cannabis situation in Holland. it's like they are slowly chipping away, so slowly that no one really gets upset but the whole time they are making things tighter and tighter.

Well surely the Dutch don't need permission from the EU to make laws which have jurisdiction only within their own borders?
And besides, the EU merely gave permission....it's the Dutch government who is trying to push these regressive, right-wing laws through.
Peace.

My argument isn't that American's would be outraged by being told what to do. It's that any one with a true "conservative" (Most Americans are far right compared to euros) political view is going to say that the EU has over stepped their bounds telling the NL which products are and are not allowed to be sold in their own nation. Conservatives believe in small government and the market, not big government and regulation that the E.U. symbolizes.

Oh and F.Y.I. in theory the federal government has very limited powers that can only be extended through a change in the constitution. Although there are many examples of this being circumvented (Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 is a prime example) Did it ever occur to you that alcohol prohibition was an amendment? Why did they did they go through the hassle to amend the constitution? (I'll let you fill in the blanks, know your rights ignorant people like you are why America has such limited civil liberties.)

The point is that EU had the opportunity to stop this kind of action but failed. EU is often flattening local cultures and pushing wrong politics like prohibitionism instead of creating a new, better and bigger place.

These people might be the least self-aware in all of Western Society. Let's see, what does the Netherlands have going for it besides it's (previously) enlightened views on prostitution and soft drugs:

-The worst weather in Western Europe
- The worst food in Western Europe
- Cost of living and travel prices akin to the South of France, Milan, Barcelona, and other world-class, aesthetically amazing cities and towns across Western Europe.
- Horrible hotels and travel accommodations en masse
- Ass-backwards, 20th century economy that only survives by piggy-backing on the considered policy and largely back-door shared economy of neighboring countries
etc. etc. etc.

Roughly one third of the worthwhile luxuries that country enjoys is brought on by tourist monies, most of which stems, in one way or another, from their lax soft drug and prostitution policies.

Do these dopes think everyone is just gearing up to eat mediocre cheese for 12 Euro's a plate, then soak up the sites and sounds of the Anne Frank Museum?

lulz, enjoy your slow drift towards poverty, Netherlands.

Don't know where you got your cheese from, but we must have been in different parts of a country smaller than my State. (I just love Gouda, so a little bias there).

I take your point.
However, it's only right and proper that the Dutch can make their own laws, regardless of what I, you, or the EU say. I'm all for Europe, but fuck a 'European State' with a shitty stick. I've got enough people trying to tell me what's what, without the EU having the ability to do so.
Off topic. Sorry.
Peace.

It's got absolutely nothing to do with the E.U. mate. You should know that, being part of it!
Holland, along with many other EU countries, is becoming more right-wing in the face of economic instability. It's the centre-right Dutch government to blame....I'm sure Brussels couldn't care less.
Peace.

Surely its got everything to do with the eu for deeming this ban legitimate under eu law? Its been a while since I got my law degree but one of the aspects of eu law that I seem to remember is that you cant discriminate against other euros? For example if you had a pub in london and put a sign up saying: no foreigners then i'm sure that wouldbe in breach of eu law of some kind, regardless of whether you iused a membership scheme to implement it? and regardless of whether the dire tive came from th government at he end of the day eu lawtakes precedent over domestic law

EU is everything to do with it, the eu has been trying to force the Netherlands into full on prohib for years. Fuck the EU. The EU was Hitlers plan B. and that is a fact. Just before the end of the war, the top Nazis and and a bunch of industrialists had a meeting in a hotel ((Maison rouge, Strasbourg)) the topic of discussion--Plans to setup European economic community, that would slowly creep over time into a fourth reich.
Google the red house report.
Wilson should have been hung for treason(fuck the queen I mean against the people)

the netherlands from the certainty to people living in the EU is the one thing you can legalize and acceptable and possible. closing its doors to tourists will close the last glimmer of light and possibility of belief in this battle (I speak for Italy) or at least and they try.i am stay in Amsterdam for 7 days ccup2010 and my impression was clean and tidy. there is smoke there is drinkers who want to make love when at specific and controlled, which can only create a total feeling of freedom that leads to a minority their illegal crimes in the Netherlands should be an example as always has been.:tiphat::tiphat:
