Hi BudMan30. I wouldn't worry about it being spider mites as they're super small and you're not going to see them run.. Was it a real spider? Leave it alone if it if bro.. Spiders are carnivorous.

Hi BudMan30.. Yes cats and dogs can bring in many things as well as pollen from a different grow site. Though so can we on our clothes and shoes too :).

Would it be possible to take a picture bro? Mites need to be viewed under magnification unless the infestation is so bad you can see a cluster. Check this out:

Even that is under magnification..

So you say they're fast huh.. And they like to run under soil huh.. You sir have thrips on your top soil.. Adult thrips are fucking sprinters bro. "I wrote thrip larvae can damage your roots and I was wrong!" Thrips will lay their eggs on the underside of your foliage and appear like small white squiggly lines when they begin to feed on your foliage. To be honest most dirt growers have thrips because we as growers provide an environment they like.. We can only appreciate the fact that they consider our environment a haven :). I'm sorry about the misinformation above. I was referring to "Root Aphids (their larvae)" they are what kill your roots bro not thrips..
Here is the adult Thrip:
thrips2.jpg

To observe you can only admire it's profile. This thing is SUPER streamlined and designed for speed! They fly very low to the surface giving the appearance of super fast running. Don't bother smashing them bro.. From what I read on here. People seem to love Azamax. I think I'll buy one just to have as well. I hate being unprepared for the worst..

Good airflow on your plants and daily interaction with your plants will help control pest populations. Pests HATE when their environment is interrupted. A plant left to grow unattended on an automated setup is more likely to become infested by pests than that of a plant that has daily interaction with it's user.

By this I simply mean to touch her. I touch all the leaves daily. I usually take all the fan leaves on each plant and gently push their petioles down as to expose the new chutes. I do this to all of them and an hour later they return to the top again. It's simple interaction like this that will disturb a pests environment and peace. This works for me and I have never been infested. I do have thrips. I see them here and there but they are never a problem for me to take evasive action. Though mites and aphids are a totally different story. I've never had them and I wouldn't take a chance with them. Eradication of those two pests is necessary. Good luck bro. You'll get them..

Also here is an adult "Root Aphid" it is their offspring that will feed on your roots causing what appear to be micro deficiencies such as Calcium and Magnesium..

Note that they appear similar to Fungus Gnats which I consider harmless.

Here are the Root Aphid offspring which are known to feed on roots causing dessication and root death.

Here's a link to a video showing root aphids in action:

So at the very least lets determine if you have Thrips or Root Aphids but I'd rule out Spider Mites based on the original information you posted.

Hi BudMan30.. from what I read the aphid larvae will live in your root zone but it is the young aphids that pierce through the roots causing damage to your plants. The thrips will penetrate your foliage and suck out their food causing leaf issues.

The ones that I find do not do damage are fungus gnats bro.

Azamax is a pesticide used to treat various infestations of insects. It's all good bro we were all new at one point too :). Drop the soil question in the soil forums bro. Better answers for general questions. I'm more of a peat type of guy along with hydro.. Feel free to reach out if you need help. I'm usually online considering that I'm somewhat midgrow right now.

Nice!!. I never chop stems brother only crust them. I use it to promote branching. As for the bag it was an experiment. I tried filling it with earth worm castings to prevent brown algae in the cloner but I've since learned that replacing your water often fights off the nasties. I usually replace my water in the ez cloner every 5 days after the first 7..

Hi BudMan30 what is good bro.. Yes hydro is a bit more hands on.. In my case I live with my girls so it's easy for me to spot differences and possible lockouts. It's just very unforgiving when compared to soil. If I were you I'd start with ProMixHP. It's potting mix and it's similar to soil but without the organics you can say.
