Looking at the dynamic accumulator page

http://www.oregonbd.org/Class/accum.htm

I see a common weed around my parts, common mulien has a modem of value as a possible FPE.

Investigating further I find some more interesting things on mulien from wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbascum_thapsus

Like this

The tall pole-like stems end in a dense spike of flowers[1] that can occupy up to half the stem length. All parts of the plants are covered with star-shaped trichomes.[3][4] This cover is particularly thick on the leaves, giving them a silvery appearance.

Other insects commonly found on Great Mullein feed exclusively on Verbascum species in general or V. thapsus in particular. They include mullein thrips (Haplothrips verbasci),[60] Gymnaetron tetrum (whose larva consume the seeds) and the Mullein Moth (Cucullia verbasci).[7] Useful insects are also hosted by Great Mullein, including predatory mites of the Galendromus, Typhlodromus and Amblyseius genera, the minute pirate bug Orius tristicolor[60] and the mullein plant bug (Campylomma verbasci).[62] The plant's ability to host both pests and beneficials makes it potentially useful to maintain stable populations of insects used for biological control in other cultures, like Campylomma verbasci and Dicyphus hesperus (Miridae), a predator of whiteflies.[63][64] A number of pest Lepidoptera species, including the Stalk Borer (Papaipema nebris) and Gray Hairstreak (Strymon melinus), also use V. thapsus as a host plant.[65]

My question becomes how to incourage things i want like lots of trichombs, and benficail insect home from a plant extract? or shouod I just concentrate on the mineral properties that it might have?

Thanks scrappy

do you mean that a trichome rich plant like mullein made into a plant extract will make frostier buds? if so i highly doubt it.

and benficail insect home from a plant extract?

the only home an extract would be good for is microbes. most of the insects attracted to beneficial plants are for one reason. food of some kind. extracts only provide food for one thing really, microbes again.

that being said, mullein is a great deep tap rooted plant, which brings lots of minerals from the sub soil. it works best if you pass it through a blender, or put a weed whacker in a barrel with the mullein to make it into smaller pieces. otherwise whole leaves take some time to decompose.

put a weed whacker in a barrel. The neighbors would be calling the guys in the white suits if they seen that. Good idea though.

Drat, i thought I might be able to extract compounds favorable for tric production, the insect thing was a shot in the dark. Reguardless thanks Jay...........scrappy

I doubt I would freak my neighbors out. After seeing the compost saks around my yard, me picking and saving the dandelions, while their lawns are pristine green chem dumps and mine is weed central. And really, they already think i raise skunks.......scrappy

yea lol there are far worse things than putting weeds in a barrel and destroying them. i would think most neighbors would give you a big thumbs up for this.

It is just the sight of it. Most people would not think of that. And when they did see it they would wonder why.....at least I would.

I've been harvesting mullein at random for the past week for medicine, and then yesterday the subject came up in a conversation about it possibly being used as a FPE.

I think it depends on where you live and what you're looking like if you do the barrel and weed wacker trick.

would it be worse than putting weeds in a blender with water? because thats what i do for things like lavender and the more potent extracts where not a lot is needed.

Yeah..good point. People do all kinds of oddball stuff everywhere. After further thought it doesn't look bad to see some stoner looking guy with his weed wacker mulching up weeds in a trash can. If anybody raised an eyebrow they would probably think you were trying to get rid of them. Of course assuming you are growing cannabis any place close to others.

The weird thing to see would be watching the stoner guy dig it out of the trash can and take the mush inside.

Finding some reading on trich production relying on certain acids that are produced during stress. Plants with high trich production would seem to have high amounts that I would think may be passed on in an extract. Then again. it may not. I just wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the idea. It may be a very minor player yet still part of the total equation. Sounds like some good shit regardless.

How do you use it as medicine? scrappy

Used as an expectorant and anti-inflammatory. Most people make a tea to loosen congestion, others smoke it. Used in salves and compresses on injuries that swell up....and other stuff.

Forty years ago I harvested mullien from over 3000 feet, cured it and sold it to herb wholesalers. I also made various smoking mixtures, mixed with kinikinik (uva ursi) and/or white yarrow leaves. Paradoxically most of this I sold to NA Indians. It is also good mixed with cannabis trimmings. For lung ailments it can be smoked but breathing the steam is better. I took a load with me to Haida Gwaii where it does not grow and it was used to cure a young boy of asthma.
