H&G Algen extract vs well any other kelp

D

DonkDBZ

Algen extract ... freaking 95bucks a bottle.
GO Bioweed 16 bucks
Algamic 32 bucks

I have used all 3...well the algen when it was only 30 bucks.
Currently I use Bioweed which has same npk and looks exactly like algamic.
Algen looks different but is there any difference besides that?

algen extract is more concentrated, but maxicrop, or any others u mentioned are very similar, do the math on doses per dollar, 2ml a gal goes a long way, instead of ten ml a gal.

A 50lb bag of Acadian kelp meal (enough to last a long time even in a huge garden) is $40-$60, depending.

As long as its "cold pressed" they all work the same IMO. Kelp meal sounds great but i think the liquid form is easier for the plant to eat and easier to control the dose. I dont use it to far into bloom either..i think the hormones in it mess with plant height and yield.
( this is all just my opinion )

Peace Lm

Careful Pincone. I got the CC wrath for thinking a "bag of kelp" posted by the poster was kelp, and not "kelp meal" (I just read the posters words). While you know the facts, you are now reversing my previous mistake, thinking an extract is the same as a "meal".

I just don't want you to suffer any cc blowback or have you called a dimwit because you didn't recognize that a seaweed extract is not a meal.

Don't want you to suffer

The OP title is "vs well an other kelp". I was careful to clarify "meal" this time. Learning.

so what is the difference? solubility? and what is more valuable, or what should you use in what situation..

yes, I do think CC works for some agriculture business, and he does know more then the average bear. I believe he speaks highly of kelpak? for there unique process of cell bursting or something along those lines... maybe CC can come in here and tell us the scoop on the different seaweed products we have to choose from

thanks dimwit... I mean, grapeman.... haha

Well I'll weigh in first I guess. I've used this quite a bit on this crop.

http://www.simplici-tea.com/seaweed.htm

It will make a seaweed extract similar to H & G at about 1/20 the price (didn't do the math so maybe it's even cheaper then that). Does the same thing, supplies the same nutrients. I have a bottle of the H & G product. I haven't used it for over a year or more. I'd have to check the rates, but I think H & G's rates are very low.... if I remember correctly.

But I've used much more Acadian Seaweed. We use tons per year on the farm. This is the product

Also Acadian does OEM labeling for lots of seaweed companies. Their product is similar as the product from the link above.

I wouldn't use the H & G product just due to the cost.

Seaweed is seaweed pretty much.

I've used kelpak also. That is a product I've applied early in spring to promote root growth as it has a bit more auxins etc that excite root growth. I still use it on this crop as a dip when I go from a root riot cube to soil I first soak the cube full of roots in a 2% kelpak solution.

this is a topic that i still have some interest in. i personally use technoflora's SSE. what grapeman posted looks like a nearly identical product (1-1-16 v 1-1-17) and both are the same species, although im sure his is way cheaper than TF's SSE. powdered cold processed seems like the best way to go except enzymatic cold processed IMO. but i wonder what difference it really makes...
