what size pot is just right?

how small can a pot have to be not to interfere with the growth?

i'm using a small tent, so i want to be able to grow a 6' high plant that is not root bound. i currently use pots that are at least a few gallons, and i can only fit 9 (3x3) and still have some room for the CO2 and fan.

thanks!

Depends on your plants..you want to finish them at 6 inches? Are you flowering from seed no veg time?

hopefully ur usin a 1000 watter or else that 6 foot plant is gonna have the whole bottom half consisting of larf...general rule is a gallon of root space per foot of plant height

I am confused...flowering from seed means no veg time, vegging a couple months they will far exceed 6 inches..I don't think you can do both they are mutually exclusive but if you can finish them at 6 inches 1 gallon should be fine, maybe half gallon, your plants willfar tell you.

sorry to confuse. i have a 3'x3'x6' tent, growing under a 400w. i want them to grow the entire 6' vertical. i am NOT 12/12 from seed. vegging a good month or so. you're basically saying i should use the 12" pots so i don't constrict roots?

Larf city with 6ft tall plants and a 400...good luck pot size isn't going to be the biggest issue you face..

Anything > 24 inches with my 400 becomes questionable..not real good penetration..i mean 24 inches away from the light, not anything taller than that necessarily..

Depends on the pot. i use airpots and only grow to >2ft. With these airpots I use a small 3 liter pots. 6ft I would use the 3 gal air pot. but like everyone else said, you have light problems.

the more you veg with a 400 the more stem and wasted time you get, ive found that 7.5 liter pots vegged to a foot and then flipped give you bud from top to bottom with a decent light penetration, i also bend the stems and mush the main one as i flip to allow the plant to create a bowl shape, i personally like to remove fan leaves at this point to, but only if the new shoot they support is big enough, if you do it to soon you stunt the branch shoot.

you wont be able to grow 6 foot monsters under a 400 it will be all top and nothing else. well you will be able to but your time would be better spent getting it finished and doing your next crop, i personally think the time you save on veg now added up will make time for another crop and thus more bud.

i spent ages banging my head against the wall vegging for ages, its all about getting the most bud in the shortest time isnt it?

im full of shit sometimes i can only talk from what ive done not what ive read. hope ive helped in some small way.

Your light will take up a foot of vertical space if not more, the pot maybe a foot. It has been said already but, do not grow the plant over 3 feet tall, and really 2 feet is more like it. If you have side lighting then that is different.

Think of filling that 3x3' space up horizontally rather that growing as high as you can.
