I don't want to be a buzz kill but a 12000 btu portable will cool about the same as your 5000 btu window shaker with much lower reliability a larger window unit would probably work better and save you some money just check for light leaks.

I have a LG 12,000 BTU that I have been using for 4 years. Im using it now in a 5x5x10 It has a built in dehumidifier. It has worked flawlessly since its purchase. I paid 499 for it then at home depot

I did not buy this for growing. It was purchased for the master BR 12x12. I love it a 5k would never cool down a room like this unit does.. I have a 5k that would not cool a bathroom. If I did not have central A/C now I would buy another one just like this or a mini split.

Portables are a much cleaner install IMO then a window unit.

If It was me I would get a mini split. If you can not afford that a good quality portable will work for a 12x12 room. Just make sure you put the water drain line into a larger bucket or plumb it to drain outside. I use a 5g bucket if you dont check it every few days it could overflow. I empty mine every 4 days and its about half full.

You will need to use its own circuit it uses 12amps.

Only problem with the window unit, is that light can leak in through the vent area.

Now the best way to solve that, is have your lights on at night, and fabricate a light proof cover to go on it during the day.

I am running some sort of portable AC, however, it is having a harder time now that I added 2k.

wondering this myself....gonna pick up a portable to help keep my temps down....i only have issues on hot days it creeps around 8-85...

one way i keep temps down on hot days is use the dimmable option on my phantom 1ks....bring all my lights down to 600 for a few days and its like turning off 2k worth of lights....

luckily where i live hot days are uncommmon..

Fuck portables .....

Inefficient , leak loads of funk and all around suck . If you can put a larger window unit , go for that. Better yet , if you have the $$$ mini split!

I have two fridgedaire 11000's, not the heater models. I would buy another if I needed it, noisy, but they do the job.

Thanks everyone...I went with a 12,000 btu from lowes...Ill leave the 5,000 in for extra if needed...

Light leak isnt an issue for my autoflower's(all i run inside), but yes the window ac is sealed:tiphat:

There are 3 4x4x8' flower boxes in my 14x14 room with a 600 HPS in each...8" fan cools them all and pumps air out

I have 30 days to decide if i want to keep it

Yes if i was doing more or owned the house then a mini split would forsure be put in

:thank you: everyone

I own 2 of the LG's, problem is they only have an exhaust (hot air) hose/vent instead of intake and exhaust. Smell will escape using units without intake. The LG worked flawlessly cooling 4k of air cooled lights for several runs.

If I were to buy I would choose this unit for $430 http://www.horticulturesource.com/product_info.php?products_id=6379

Smell will actually still leak with the two hose units (I've got 2 12k btus). There are two intakes, the 4-5 inch intake and usually one on the back of the unit as well.

As far as which one to use, any 2 hose unit will work. Do know however that they aren't the most efficient.

I put a scrubber on the exhaust. My LG has the intake its not a hose it's just flat on the back. There is a compartment where thee is a hepa filter then the air goes in and blows out the front cold.

A scrubber or some ozone could fix the problem as those above have mentioned. Just know, straight out of the box there will be air (smell) from your room exhausted, even the unit I linked says "This unit does not contain a sealed compressor and a small amount of room air can be exchanged through the exhaust port". 1:ying:

fuck i was following that until about 5:30, all the valve pressure hookups is a little over my head at the moment...

in a shitty situation...i should have gotten this installed years ago but i went ahead without it...

im not running sealed room either...10in exhaust in a 10x10x8 room, gonna have to look into more air cooled lights and possibly ice boxes..and throw in a few portables for any heat waves..

If operating cost is a concern and you can't run a mini-split since your renting you might want to think about this in those next 30 days: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=194599

Thanks for the link bro that is a awsume DIY...I can run a mini if i must but i cant find one for under a $1,000+ and dont really wanna spend that
