So, someone gave me an Imac G5, 21,5"

it's in very good condition, the only thing is that it doesn't have a hard drive

I never had a mac in my life, to be honest, I am not that fond of them. I have decided that I will keep it, and put it in the living room for simple internet surfing, I know the great thing about macs is that they don't crash. So what i'm wondering is :

Is there a different hard drive (size or model)

for the 21.5" imacs ?

I seen on ebay that they sell hard drives that are good for 17 and 20 inches... so i'm wondering they go with 21.5 too
I asked one seller the question but I have yet to get an answer

also, would love to hear people's experience with this computer, or macs in general

thanks!

I do not know anything about imacs but I do for the most part love my mac & when I hear storys from my dad about his computer just upgrading the soft ware on it's own etc. I love mine even more, on the hard drive check with dv warehouse they sell new & used mac & micosoft computer stuff! Good luck!:plant grow:

How handy are you? From EveryMac

All of the Aluminum iMac models -- regardless of generation -- have a 3 Gb/s SATA connector for a 3.5" hard drive and different models have a variety of different drives installed by default.

Apple considers the memory in the Aluminum iMac models to be a "customer installable part" but the hard drive is not intended to be upgraded by end users. Upgrading the memory is extremely easy -- there is a small removable "door" on the bottom of each system for this purpose -- but upgrading the hard drive requires one to remove the display and effectively disassemble the entire computer.

Oh, the installation is not a problem. I have built many pcs, and I checked the manual for replacing a hard drive on their site and I know I won't have a problem. There are plenty of pictures in the manual.

I am just curious if the hard drives for the 17 and 20" imacs are good for the 21.5" ones too.
I figure so, but I would just like to make sure.

it sounds much harder then it is in that post :)

hey longears, you should have this moved to the computers forum, a lot more tech heads visit there daily, just my .02 even though I usually start my threads right here as well.

Heartfelt apologies for impugning your inner manly geek. :badday:

Go to Everymac. Click on iMac and this will give you the specs on every iMac ever made. If the 17 and 20 inch models are aluminum then your answer should be yes but, I'd double check.

While Macs are known for being trouble free, I'd still recommend you pick up DiskDoctor or similar diagnostic/repair disk. Saved me more than once.
