pump the nutes into your yard NOT down the drain, tasty nutes = tree roots = plumbers = fucked up situation when you don't need it.

i use the pump that is already in the rez. I have a piece of black tubing about 3 feet long with a ball valve and a hose fitting on it. I just pull the hose off my pump, put a garden hose on it, and turn the pump on. I usually tilt the res when almost done and I get just about everything out. 2-3 cups of water left. if its a rez change I leave it. If after a harvest I'll shop vac it.

One of these days I need to plumb it so I can easily drain it

A damn Bucket works too...

all you wipper snappers and your electrical equipment.. where is the muscle???

I lay down towles in a path to the toilet.. then i walk BUCKETS ... time is free and I need the work out.. plus I live in a huge apt building where there are not any trees to water outside or grass to pitch it into.. never clogged a toilet in over ten years of growing and toilet trips with buckets.. \\

Goodluck..

if you have this type of fill fitting you can use it and your pump to empty your res by removing the screen from the fill fitting and attaching a plastic tube to the slip on nipple you exposed by removing the screen. it's made for emptying your res.

the green one is the fill fitting

localman,

Lol,
I just got a Freak Bros. cartoon in my head of a cop standing next to a 100 gallon puddle in the alley behind your apt. building watching a hose getting pulled back in a window...

The point of indoor growing is to work smarter, not harder. Especially when it comes to various tasks such as draining/changing the nutrients in one's reservoir.

The point of indoor growing is to work smarter not harder... Ok NO the point of indoor growing is to EXTEND the Grow Season to 12 months first off, Secondly the Point of Indoor Growing is to KEEP IT SAFE from deer, thieves, and PIGS... what Planet did you fly in from Herbsman? The ONLY reason I grow inside in a tent is due to the LIMIT of PERSONAL FREEDOM period..

and I LOVE my ladies so the "tasks" as you call it are a JOY to me.. learn what love is and how to protect it b4 you claim to know why someone would spend energy over electricity...

Mind over the Establishment and OverGrow the Govt.

its just my 2cents all peace and love man

so if you dont own a hose, do you fill the rez with buckets too? just wondering how big your rez is that you do this? I run 2 100 gallon rezes so this is NOT an option.

As far as us whipper snappers with electronics, well E&F requires a pump regardless. So 20$ for a hose and adapter, you can save yourself A LOT of work. yeah I know its not work for you, its a joy.

I run my hose to the toilet.

I actually use two hoses.

One to drain the res, and one to fill the res. As the rez is draining, I will water the pots to remove salts, wash any hydroton dust, crap etc to the rez, and then rinse the rez.

how are the tree roots going to get to the nutes being carried inside a drainpipe?,wouldnt any drain that carries human waste(ie fertilizer)be just as suseptible to your tree root theory?

your 200 gal rez would see fit the use of a pump.. if i told you i filled my 30 gal to the brim id lie so prob 28 gal is what i would say my rez is. . . much less then 200. . .

I also only have a tent to plant in so your size must be a nice bedroom :)

O the days of whole rooms of plants O how i miss the

there are many older drain pipes still in use. solid pipe or PVC/ABS is "newer" thing. many homes are still using the old clay pipes that are sectioned and used rubber gaskets to seal between the sections and the rubber degrades, that is where to roots get in. trust me, tree roots in drain pipes IS NOT a theory. there are many products out there to kill tree roots in drain pipes for a reason and your plumber will suggest using them right after he charges you $400 on a saturday.

if you don't have a yard or garden i can see putting nutes down the drain, but if you do have one i can't really see the sense in throwing good nutes away.

yes human waste is a fertilizer, but i don't know anyone who eats good stuff like roots excell, myco bacteria, humic/ fulvic acids or kelp extracts. all these things will help your outdoor trees just like it helps the indoor trees. have you ever seen what tree roots can do to a sidewalk or driveway. not what you want happening to your sewer pipes

i did not post this because of a "theory"..... FWIW i have had and solved this problem. no nutes down the drain means no copper sulphate down the drain to kill roots and i don't need to roto rooter 2 times a year. may not make any sense to you but it works for me

I use buckets too, it is good for me, I was raised carrying buckets of water for animals every day, so it seems normal. I will do it with pumps if I ever break something. When I was recouperating from heart surgery, I could only lift ten pounds at a time, one gallon, that sucked. I run 50 gal, 30 gal, 30g veg, and about a hundred gallons in my res room. all buckets. It is a blessing to be able to do it. If my back goes out, not so much.
