Just bought microscope how do i tell when to harvest?

I just bought a 45x LED microscope to check the trichomes. Could someone please remind me what is the correct colour for harvest? Isnt it clear = still a way to go
& cloudy = ready to pick and brown = over ripe?

If theres a link to a thread that explains all this that would be awesome i had a quick look couldnt find one.

Sorry for the noob question but im at 7.5 weeks now so crucial time

I depends on what type of high you want. And it also depends on what strain you are growing.

This is where the search feature comes in handy. There are lots of reports on this here at IC. You just have to look around.

7.5 weeks on what strain?

Example.....I take some buds when the trics are clear....leaving most of the plant to continue maturing. A week later take another bud all the while watching the trics. I document this and then the next round I harvest the plants on what I got out of the high that I liked from the first round. It takes time and experience.

Depends on the strain & your prefered high/effect, The more you go into Amber the heavier the stone. I like a nice 70-80% cloudy with about 10%+ Amber, & a minimal 5%-10%clear, the more % of clear trichs the racier the high.

THC starts to be broken down by CBN into CBD the more Amber you let them go(iirc), hence the heavier stone with higher % of Amber trichs, you'll lose flavour & aroma in that process too.

So you'll prolly want to shoot for mostly cloudy trichs, small % of Amber, with some clear, just keep checking with your new scope.

Ive been playing with the microscope overnight and have seen that most of the buds are well into the cloudy stage with very little amber and a little bit of clear left. Im going to take them another 11 days or so (its a indoor mix so finishing times will all differ slightly) but i figure by about 65 days it will be good to go. I cant do multiple harvests due to perpetual / lack of space / too much work / can't be fukt etc but i can accept a tiny bit of variation at this point.

I just cant believe i didnt invest $12 sooner and get a microscope it takes out all the guess work! IMO any serious grower should have one as part of their gadget inventory!

Meh, you guys harvest way too early! You do NOT lose potency by going past 10% amber! I have had plants that have been full cloudy since six weeks budding and they wont be ready till week 11! I guarantee you my buds at 50 percent amber will give you a much more fullfilling high than a strain picked way early with just ten percent amber, they stink way more and are way more frosty if you let them go another week or two, at 10% amber most strains havent even finished their final plumping. Want a lighter, more racey high? Grow a sativa! Growing an indica or hybrid and picking it before it reaches max potency, smell and flavor so that it wont make you sleapy is madness, you may not get burnt out but you will also have a low ceiling and short lasting, un fullfilling high!

Lol, yeah thx MedWestern. I perhaps do ask a few basic questions here and there.. Its mostly to confirm stuff i already knew or get a range of opinions from the senior guys on more subjective topics.

Funny thing is, ive been running 3k - 4k since i ever started these guys like SOXAROO who post retarded sarcastic responses are probably still working on getting their "Fluoro 55w cabinet grow" sorted. I mean what i do isn't big or anything but it just makes me laugh all these morons that don't even grow that loiter around here spreading their dirty information ugh barf :moon:

I pretty much only listen to the senior guys on here and and a few others with good reputations and a few others if their information / views checks out with what i know to be true. All the rest is discarded lol..

30X 60X LED Jewelry Loupe Glass Magnifying Magnifier

The 60X is ideal for checking ya tric's out, im currently using one to check out the tric's on the final few of my OG White's


I used one of these while checking out all the buds that were floating around at the 420 amsterdam
ideal little 60x loupe only about $4 shipped anywhere in the world and these work great i bought a couple of em..

I spent a night figuring out jewelers loupes. now I'm not gonna even mention cheap crap as I don't like cheap crap..

-if your budget is nill, buy a bausch and lomb hastings triplet loupes.
-if you like quality, and have money, buy eschenbach achromatic loupes.

some brief info.

-always buy a triplet , it is 3 lens' stacked together
-always buy quality, cheap crap is plastic, or bad quality glass with narrow focus field
-quality loupes will appear more magnification then a cheap of the same magnification
-quality doesn't loose clarity at the edges

I like the light high. I grow a sativa dominant, but it still has to get ripe.
Used to be I harvested at 43 days. Light leaks made seeds appear about then, learned that here.
Fixed leaks and got a magnifier, cloudy appeared at 51 days. Chopped it all down while the pistols were still full white and pointy because of the trichome clouding. Learned more here.
Testing was mentioned. OK. New tray almost ready.
Day 51, pulled a bud.
Day 55, pulled a bud.
Day 59, pulled a bud.
Day 61 is today. I can tell the difference each time. Still no amber, lots of clear still showing up although over 3/4 are cloudy. Pistols are half and half straight white and curly brown. When the bud tests the same as the bud before the plant will come down, I'm guessing 70 days, but I'm not a very good guesser.

Getting the loupe is helping, but it is not a stand alone device, 8 days and the clouding is not way different, but the smoke test is.

Different plants, different patterns. I hear some sativa's never do go amber.
But I definitely have been harvesting too soon since 1999. That is a lot of time doing it wrong and thinking it is the correct and only way. :kitty:
