Iwaki Pumps

why so specific? you're better off just searching "mag drive pumps" into google because that's all you really need when it comes to reliability if you want. Iwaki's dont seem suit for our type applications, even though they could. Just saying there are cheaper more reliable pumps out there just have to look.

I don't have to go with Iwaki how is mag drive more reliable? Looking for low wattage, quiet, performance, and reliability. I wanted to buy the Reeflo snapper cause it has adjustable flow. Full power run 98 watts GPH 2500. Figure I could turn it down too 1500 and use less wattage.
Do Mag drives use high wattage? Noise etc...

no noise issues. and they should use less wattage because they only have 1 moving part.

Wattage is high on mag drives, looking for low wattage. Anyone know anything about Red Dragon and/or Blue Line

I have a danner mag 9.5 thats been running non-stop for years (5ish?). first on my Saltwater reef tank then on my freshie. Its dead reliable and quiet,I've never had an issue with it ever. Saltwater aquariums are 100X more harsh than anything grow related. Its running full steam 10' from my head and I don't hear more than a real faint hum, and that may even be the filters.

Iwakis are magnetic drive pumps. Iwakis are the quietest, coolest ruuning of the external mag drive pumps. Iwakis are also available with higher pressures than other pumps typically used. The higher pressures are advantageous with aero systems as misters are made for higher pressures than that produced by pumps such as the Danner Magflo pumps. Reeflo pumps are not mag drive so throttling them back with a valve does lower their used wattage. Throttling back a mag pump does not lower the amount of wattage used. The cheapest source for Iwaki pumps is eBay. For a high pressure pump look for an RZ in it model number such as MD20RZT.

I'm a bit late to this one but I run a Blueline HD55 1100gph pump and love it. I needed a pump to run over 25ft head and the Iwaki's were very expensive so I went with the blueline. It's been running 24/7 for a year so far, only uses 1.5amp and is so quiet I have to put my ear close to know it's running, very happy with it.

I ran Iwaki's on my reef tanks. They're the best, period. However, Danner Magdrives are good too. I think for hydro use the Danners are fine. It's what I use.

The advantage of Iwaki pumps is in buying the MD-30RZ(T) or MD-70RZ(T) pumps as they are high pressure. However this is only advantageous if your using spray nozzles as they produce a spray instead of the streams of water as produced by the typical mag drive pumps like the Danner Magdrives or the Blueline pumps. All the Iwakis are quiet and cool running pumps.
