Hi everyone, I have a question regarding how to block light on my air intake in my Homebox. I have a 6 " flange connected to my cooltube and light comes in the hole, no good for flowering. I currently have some pre filter material that I found at home depot over the hole, but light still gets in. I'm stumped??
I cannot really build a light baffle as the tents walls will not support such a bulky contraption. I am stumped and need help. Feel free to recommend anything that will not restrict my airflow and does not cost a fortune, thanx.
The real question I think , Is what can i use to pre filter my air, Not lose cfm's and block light all at once that doesnt cost more than $100.

id say the easiest way would be to put a longer piece of flexible duct and create a bend in between the cooltube and the outlet and hold in place with cable tie or similar, it should work fine as light cannot bend round corners. hope this helps

yes, I agree this would be the easiest, and pretty loud. The sound of all that air in the 6" duct is pretty loud, plus I would have all this 6" ducting running all over my bedroom. I considered insulated ducting, but then i would have to build some kind of box over the window to attach all the intake hoses to. I am looking for something like the dust shroom in the link I posted. Im trying to cut out light, AND filter my intakes. Your idea still needs a filter on the long piece of ducting anyway.

Pics of your setup would allow some type of comment. Need to see it buddy.....
I agree pics would help. I don't own a camera, so its a challenge. But this " no camera" has gone on long enough. I will get my roomate to use his smart phone. Pics coming later today :)

To filter the light connect ducting to the hole and make it do a 360 bend.

To filter the air, buy some cheap 30 day furnace filters and cut them up and put them at the exhaust of your intake vent so the air is blowing through the filter, not sucking through the filter.

I filter my intake with 30 day furnace filters and you can see all the dust it traps after 1 week.

This does nothing for me, I am trying to filter the INTAKE...
I am trying to remove dust and contaminates BEFORE they enter the room. I did this, as I stated and it cut down on my intake flow drastically.I used carbon fiber filter made for air conditioners, and it did not cut out light, and it didn't work for airflow either.. IM STILL STUMPED, arghh....

I know this one,lol I think it makes too much noise, thus my product search for an alternative. Maybe it doesn't exist??? IDK?
ANYONE use those intake filters? are they lightproof, cause if they are ,BINGO, they are exactly what I need.
I am trying to avoid spending a couple hundred bucks only to find out its not what I'm looking for. any help is appreciated.

Filter the "exhaust" of your intake fan.

Filter the "exhaust" of your intake fan.

I know you want to filter your intake fan. I was trying to say to put the filter on the end of the fan that blows out, rather than the end that sucks in.

If you're going to use a furnace/air conditioner filter buy the cheap 30 day filters. They will give you better air flow than the expensive 90 day filters. I change my 30 day filters about once a week.

But if a furnace filter cuts downt the air flow too much I have heard of people using panty-hose. I'm sure that will filter dust but it won't filter the air as good as a furnace filter.

Trying and doing is two different things, lol.Still the same. my intakes meet the room before the fan. I mean really, at the outtake?? Why ??? I'm trying to prevent contaminates entering, what part of this don't you get??
Or is it me that isn't getting it??

Pics would be really really helpful here.

If you're too paranoid for that a detailed drawing or diagram would work just as well.

We don't know what your setup looks like, what kind of tent you're using, which ports on the tent are being used or are available.

I think he's saying to run like this:

Intake -> Fan -> Filter -> Whatever

Filter after the fan. Contaminants would still be in the duct, but shouldn't pollute the rest of the room.

We're trying to help you, but without knowing what things look like it has made it a lot harder.

If I understand correctly:dunno:, three or four 90* PVC elbows in an S shape might help. A snap to tape/zip tie the A/C filter (or whatever you end up using) to the outside opening of your new light trap. You can use black spray paint on the interior of each 90 before assembly.

Build what I built for my Panasonic Inlines. They are basically a box with a screen holding a bed of carbon. You just make one of those, attach it to flange, or place it over the hole.

It is the exact same concept as the Panasonic Ceiling fan carbon scrubber. Just start with an empty box.

There is a bed of carbon in the top. If you have to mount it on the outside of the box, just use two L-brackets and caulk it over the flange.

The cool thing about this design is you can make it any dimension you want, any shape you want, the concept is the same. I wana make one out of PVC that acts like a sock. Imagine that:)
