Hey there folks. Been lurking for quite some time and have been admiring a number of great vertical grows here. It's time I share my own vertical grow that has been inspired by many of you so I may not give accurate credit where credit is due but I definitely give thanks for the help in getting this room setup.
I had a couple of Secret Jardin tents I was growing in before battling a serious PM issue in a basement room. I liked the tents for portability and convenience but couldn't deal with the lack of space. I needed room to grow, man. The PM showed up soon after I started using some Smart Pot style containers. I didn't wash them before using them, kept the tent too cold and didn't have great airflow. PM destroyed my good intentions but allowed me to start over.
I built racks similar to Laylow's setup (mucho thanks) but customized the shelves for Airpots/Smart Pots and added gutters. After reading of third degree burns and blindness I have also built in a little vision protection using metal 5-gallon buckets and pulleys. I have Blumats on the way and hope to pull a little magic out of this space.
Controls mounted on window box and pulling in fresh air with computer fans. This box is hinged at the top for window access.
Metal cans shielding bulbs. They can be lowered to the floor but are kept near the ceiling most of the time.
Raised obviously - the aircraft cables are all fed together and have them "hooked" beside the door.
Better shot of the pulley system. Really simple actually. Phresh filter in back - 6". I have an 6" Active Air in-line exhaust fan outside of the room in a crawlspace.
I have three different bulbs - a 600W Sunpluse 3k, 400W Sunmaster MH and a 600W Hotilux HPS. I'd love for this room to bump to an 1800W set up or even a 3000W but I'd also like for money to be indiscriminately given to me in large sacks. I'll keep the dream alive and be happy to have a Sweet 16(00W) setup.
Gutters with drain attachments and tubing. Closet doors wrapped in Panda can sit in a flat or slanted position. Wire racks mounted on top for air pruning - hinged at the top to flip up and out of the way or they can be completely removed. At least one Honeywell fan in the mix. Also, the right side of the room is a Cheese x Dynamite (i think) from a WA co-op. It was on the losing end of the fight with PM my last go around. Garage epoxy on the concrete floor, shellac primer and semi top coat on all walls (with mildewcide added) and Eagle 20 applied after cuttings were rooted (and again last week but no more) will keep that damn PM out of my life. And better airflow. This strain super stretchy and will need to be flipped sooner than the left side but since that is not an option I expect to be out of balance with the size of my plants. They are all the same age (vegging for 6-8 weeks) and have been lst'd quite a bit.
Left side is a Raspberry Cough cutting and is a slow grower and not terribly stretchy. I'll choose strains better suited to vertical eventually but these little gals begged to be part of the fun. Who can argue that? A combo of cheap Smart Pot knockoffs with handles - 4 - 5 gal on the bottom row and the rest are 3 gal.
Backside of the bloom room partition.
Seedlings and clones shelves with fluorescent - T-5s on top and compact 150ws on the bottom.
A few beans I popped in hopes of growing a few on the deck this summer. Nirvana Safari Mix, Nirvana Critical + and KC99 X Master Kush (all freebies if I remember correctly). And damn cute mini airpots.
Thanks for the inspiration folks - hope to pull a lovely crop from this new experiment. Peace!
