Hey there folks. Been lurking for quite some time and have been admiring a number of great vertical grows here. It's time I share my own vertical grow that has been inspired by many of you so I may not give accurate credit where credit is due but I definitely give thanks for the help in getting this room setup. :thank you:
I had a couple of Secret Jardin tents I was growing in before battling a serious PM issue in a basement room. I liked the tents for portability and convenience but couldn't deal with the lack of space. I needed room to grow, man. The PM showed up soon after I started using some Smart Pot style containers. I didn't wash them before using them, kept the tent too cold and didn't have great airflow. PM destroyed my good intentions but allowed me to start over.

I built racks similar to Laylow's setup (mucho thanks) but customized the shelves for Airpots/Smart Pots and added gutters. After reading of third degree burns and blindness I have also built in a little vision protection using metal 5-gallon buckets and pulleys. I have Blumats on the way and hope to pull a little magic out of this space.

Controls mounted on window box and pulling in fresh air with computer fans. This box is hinged at the top for window access.

Metal cans shielding bulbs. They can be lowered to the floor but are kept near the ceiling most of the time.

picture.php

Raised obviously - the aircraft cables are all fed together and have them "hooked" beside the door.

Better shot of the pulley system. Really simple actually. Phresh filter in back - 6". I have an 6" Active Air in-line exhaust fan outside of the room in a crawlspace.

I have three different bulbs - a 600W Sunpluse 3k, 400W Sunmaster MH and a 600W Hotilux HPS. I'd love for this room to bump to an 1800W set up or even a 3000W but I'd also like for money to be indiscriminately given to me in large sacks. I'll keep the dream alive and be happy to have a Sweet 16(00W) setup.

Gutters with drain attachments and tubing. Closet doors wrapped in Panda can sit in a flat or slanted position. Wire racks mounted on top for air pruning - hinged at the top to flip up and out of the way or they can be completely removed. At least one Honeywell fan in the mix. Also, the right side of the room is a Cheese x Dynamite (i think) from a WA co-op. It was on the losing end of the fight with PM my last go around. Garage epoxy on the concrete floor, shellac primer and semi top coat on all walls (with mildewcide added) and Eagle 20 applied after cuttings were rooted (and again last week but no more) will keep that damn PM out of my life. And better airflow. :) This strain super stretchy and will need to be flipped sooner than the left side but since that is not an option I expect to be out of balance with the size of my plants. They are all the same age (vegging for 6-8 weeks) and have been lst'd quite a bit.

picture.php

Left side is a Raspberry Cough cutting and is a slow grower and not terribly stretchy. I'll choose strains better suited to vertical eventually but these little gals begged to be part of the fun. Who can argue that? A combo of cheap Smart Pot knockoffs with handles - 4 - 5 gal on the bottom row and the rest are 3 gal.

Backside of the bloom room partition.

picture.php

Seedlings and clones shelves with fluorescent - T-5s on top and compact 150ws on the bottom.

A few beans I popped in hopes of growing a few on the deck this summer. Nirvana Safari Mix, Nirvana Critical + and KC99 X Master Kush (all freebies if I remember correctly). And damn cute mini airpots.

Thanks for the inspiration folks - hope to pull a lovely crop from this new experiment. Peace!

Thanks all! Been wanting a clean room that is stupid easy to care for. I have been using Canna nutes through veg but would like to switch over to the KISS method once I get Blumats dripping.

Looks like I need a few more posts until I can create an avatar so you may catch me talking to myself in here from time to time. Feel free to mutter back at me!

This is AWESOME! One of the best stadium setups I've seen. You were taking really good notes. I see so many styles pulled into this room... :) Good job friend.

Is there any way you can tilt your shelves forward more? It would help to get your plant to grow out and up, so that you won't have to trim so much off the backside. I think you could secure the pots easily enough so that they don't fall forward...

it looks like you have all the bells and whistles... what are you running for humidity controls?

Appreciate the kudos. Welcome to the show! As the title to this thread suggests, I am still working on my skills so any and all advice is welcome.

Thanks Bobble. Been obsessing obviously but there are lots of great ideas spread across these forums. I will try to lean pots forward a bit or raise the backs of the shelves up a bit. Should be easy and it makes good sense. Humidity isn't much of an issue at the moment although I have seen it dropping in the last week. I think I could use a little moisture actually. I had been hovering in the 50's but I am sitting at 33% at the moment. I am certain it jumps after lights out. My exhaust still needs to be plugged into the Sentinel controller and I have a dehuey if necessary too.

I appreciate all of the kudos and will try to keep photos and updates coming. Thanks for stopping by!

Cheers!

Keep your humidity up to 70% in veg and the first 4 weeks of flower while the plants are stretching, then drop it to 45% till harvest... I'm pulling up a chair.

so clean!!!

Looks like Jesus himself constructed this one haha what are you a carpenter or something man? OCD? jk

the shelves and gutters are tight, edit: I think the screen is a great idea to help maximize light absorption via plant and increase the yield of preciousness!

Dude, you should totally rock 3000w in there or whatever is gonna be around 50wpsf, already taking the risk mine as well get paid for it? Idk

I hope the smart pots will beat the airpots !!! lool:ying:

Time to add some moisture then and hook up my exhaust to the enviro controller so that is isn't constantly pulling air out. I saw what looked to be a diy humidifier in your tester room thread? Looks simple enough assuming it is what it looks like.

Make yourself at home.

HA! Jesus was my friend at one point but he kept paying rent in fishes and loaves. Started getting stinky up in here and he was pretty f-in full of himself so we had to evict. So the correct answer is most likely OCD. It's amazing what a battle with powdery mildew will inspire. I have a few carpenter skills but honestly got many of the ideas from these forums.

I'd love 3000w in that space and will eventually graduate to brighter lights. As for the Smart Pot vs. Airpots challenge, I have two completely different strains in each so the comparison will be unfair to say the least.

Cheers!:tiphat:

In my flip-pod thread... ha ha... I know, I post too much... I use an ultra-sonic pond fogger inside of a 10gal container. There's a PC fan blowing air in it to push the fog out... The fogger is hooked up to a humidistat, and comes on whenever the humidity falls below 70%. I needed something that could keep up with a 440cfm exhaust pushing air from the veg tent into my pod.

Air should be exchanged in your room 2x a minute to take advantage of inherent CO2 in the air. I have a 440cfm intake, and a 440cfm exhaust for an 8x8 pod.

I'm a little OCD on the environmental controls... So just let me know if I'm too much to handle... ha ha...

lol..

nice window box, what do you do in the summer for fresh air???

Does light show into it? more pics? I think fresh co2 is the way to go for simplicity?!
