My new room

I haven't had a thread going for quite a while here, and decided that now's the time. I decided to put it here in growroom designs because the room has presented me with a few challenges that some other folks might like to see.

I started with an 8' x 12' room.I could not have the whole room to grow in. I had a hard time deciding how to get the most use of the space I was allotted. I have a 1K hps, a 400, a 345 W led, and some floros. I will be using the 1K for flower and maybe the 400 and/or the led too.

The room has a closet that I decided to use for veg. It says I had a 4" vortex exhausting the closet through a port I cut in the wall above the door. It's taken a while to get things done to the point where my cloning is back on track, but I had to rob the vortex to use in the bloom room, and now the heat is taking its toll on my newly planted clones. The main veg area is on the floor under a couple of 4' shop lights. Hopefully I can make some light upgrades one day soon.

I built a wall across the room to make a 4' x 8' flower room. I can put nothing through the ceiling or the exterior walls, and there is no window in the room. Well, there is a window, but not in the grow room, and I can't have vents going to them unless I build some kind of window planter to hide the vents. So I have decided to vent through the floor under the house. Obviously you have to live in a house with a basement or that is on piers to do this.

OK, this is a flicker (kind of like a woodpecker) by his home in a saguaro cactus in my yard. There is a hummingbird in the tree behind him.

Here is the filter and 4" fan blowing back into the room (my office).

I hooked up the LED to get by until I got the electricity and venting done.

There is of course only one 15 amp circuit in the room. I'm bringing power for the 1K from another room and circuit right now, until I figure out how I want to route a wire to the the room. I have an outlet outside that has the potential to work. I can the ballast plug right down through the floor and then over a ways to the receptacle. I'll have to use my big fat extension cord to reach. I'll be building a small 'tool shed' to conceal the cord. Just a small 4' wide x 18' deep and maybe 4-5 feet tall. I'll put shovels and rakes and shit in it and in a locked compartment, the cord will be plugged into the outlet, solving my electric needs.

The outlets in the grow room are being used for the AC and fans etc. When i put them all on the same circuit, the breaker popped.

I was trying to use the house central air, sucking in from my office then blowing back into the office. really raised the humidity in the office.
Temps with just the LED. too high for me. No way this will work with the 1K.

My dog is demanding that I take him out, so I'll be back after a bowl of some MoFo in the back yard waiting for the dog to crap, then I'll come back and post some more interesting stuff.

Dogs are done and I'm back with some more pics.
I put all these pics in my album last night, but was too tired to post. Feel free to poke around in my albums for lots of great pics, and lots not so great.

I've been a little lazy getting this room done and have chopped all the plants and for a few weeks had nothing going at all. Well, this one scraggly plant is still left, I might end up getting an oz off of if i'm lucky. I do have a few things going now, you'll see later. There's about 4 ounces in the jars. Barely enough.

This is what I have to get me by until the next chop which is about 2 months away.:badday: Mostly C99, with some MOFO in the big jar left from my last chop in the old house. MOFO buds: stash:

Under this mess is my 6500 btu window banger. I took Sir SmokeALot's advice and searched the AC/lung box threads and found some great information. Hoosierdaddy's thread kicked ass, and I found all the answers in the discourse between him and blazeoneup, who I have huge respect for. (there's a box of 4" insulated flex duct under the flannel.)

I took this out in the yard and totally hosed it out. It's cleaner than when it was new. Let it dry for a couple days. I built the exhaust box first. A look inside the box. I used siliconized acrylic caulking to glue the panels together. These were signs from a store, and have a hard plastic surface over a 1" thick foam. I tooled the joints with my finger to make sure all voids were filled.

I have the 1K over a 4' x 4' section of the room. The other side of the room is full of pots and coco. It sucks because I just don't have room to put anything. This is where I hope to put the 400 someday. I placed a shelf about 4' above the floor to set the AC on.
Notched it out for the ducting.
The sides of the AC intake box are in place. The top is put on the exhaust box. The drill is just there to weigh it down while the silicone dries. I siliconed the vent piece on to it the day before so it would be dry when I placed the top on.

Cutting out the pieces for the top of the intake box.

The shelf the fan will sit on.

The top of the intake box:

I need another fan. I thought I could use the fan for both the light and the AC. It's set up blowing through the hoods and into the intake on the AC.:smoky::scripture::muahaha::microwave:

All of you who have a clue or experience will know how dumb that blowing into the intake is.

Here's what happened: Ouch! 90 degrees F. The AC exhaust was super hot.

So I went back and read the thread of hoosierdaddy again and in the argument between him and blaze, I realized that I needed to put the fan on the exhaust sucking out of the unit.

I still don't have the intake done. I cut the top of the intake box off and right now it's sucking unfiltered air right thought the AC and outside. The plants in the pic above are only starting their second week, so I'm good for a few more days on the smell thing. That one mofo isn't enough to matter.

As you can see, I flipped over the fan and have routed the exhaust through the fan and out what was the intake.

The pics above of the light and filter show the current room exhaust. The pots are to keep the flex duct from bending to sharp and pinching airflow.

I have to get another fan!!

I plan on venting the hood from the outside to the outside. No room air involved. But first I think I need to get another fan.

The AC will use a fan to pull air from outside(once i finish building the intake duct) to the outside, and a fan (the one i used to have in veg) for the light/lights. I'll still need to exhaust to bring in fresh air. But I plan on sealing this baby as soon as I can get CO2 figured out. I still need a fan for the veg though, to keep it from getting to hot. Too hot for the clones in there now that the exhaust fan is gone.

mess:

Temps looking good.

A little look at the last grow in my old house. The first one is a Candy99 I got from nuggetshiner's beans, and the other a big ass mofo.

I will be posting updates as I fix things like the ac intake. I have to build a box that can handle supplying the 144 square inches of vent spaces on the AC. Cutting a 12 x 12 hole in the floor sucks. maybe 6 x 18? And the light venting.

enjoy

Just a no pics update.I still don't have the AC intake done, but I have ran the wire fro my lights to be on a separate circuit from the AC, fans, etc. I bought the rest of the ducting I will use to finish the ducts for the intake of the AC. I'll have it installed and get pics by the weekend.

Hey hazy, got any ideas on my room in the basement? I got concrete ceiling with concrete floor and concrete walls.I got an all in one 400 watt hps, ballast in the light itself.weighs about 60 pounds.

Think I should glue a board to the ceiling, and use the usual chain and screw eyes,or go into the concrete itself...hmm,just thinking The ceiling of the basement is dry and unpainted, drill holes or gorilla glue a board.Anyway it looks like you are in new digs,as am I,good to see things going good.Bump!

Just found this thread! Room is looking awesome Hazy.. Some beasts will definitely be brought to life in that room. Can't wait to see it.
Glad I found this because I'm going to be going through some similar issues/choices.. I got a big move coming up and that means an adjustment of my comfortable ways lol. A major adjustment :/ but also :D

Again, so happy I found this. Keep up the killer work..

hey hoosierdaddy, and blazeoneup been doing it. I two have followed them also.1 12000btu with two ten inch intakes and one twelve inch outtake. It works great also 4500 with one six inch over both intake vents and one six inch outtake like you. The 12k btu was ducted right to a window box with in low and out- mounted high on the box. In another time 4500 btu in a tent hung with unistrut inside ran 1 10" split inside the tent to 2 6" - one for lights - one for ac. I had booster fans on both 6" ducts hooked to 6" Y to 10" out to attic with 10 fan and carbon filter. Also worked after I wrapped all the metal ducting with reflexit bubble wrap to solve the metal from sweating and whacking humidity out. When you build a box you should look at the flow there is. 2 vents in and the whole back for exhaust.
