How tall before flipping to 12/12?

As per title, I have 8 plants that range between 12" and 24" tall, just wondering when is good to flip? I have just over 6.5 feet to play with, and growing vert for the first time. Cheers

Depends on strain, and how much they will stretch. 24" seems a bit tall though, might have to do some training.

Ok, forgive me for being a noob. I figured that dropping the bulbs down amongst the plants limits the stretch, but from what you guys are saying they continue to grow onwards and upwards?

yeah, they're still going to stretch upward... but not like with horizontal lighting. With vert lighting the plants tend to bush out more. Stretch is definitely strain dependent. That's why you'll read DHF telling everyone to monocrop. That way, you can learn your strain, and how it's going to stretch... For the perfectly full canopy. Unless they're clones, your plants are all going to stretch differently depending on their genetics. Indicas might not stretch at all, or they could be like the ChemD and stretch a good amount... Sativas stretch more, so a good hybrid is preferable... but even those have differences... C99 doesn't stretch too much, but grow a thai plant and you had better flower it as a seedling.

It's been my experience that indicas double in height after switching to 12/12, and sativas tripple (or more).

Depends on the genetics and also your techniques. Sativa's would strech up to 4x the length from 12/12 theoretically an indica's would stretch up to 3x the length from 12/12.

24'' x3 or x4 might be to much for your 6,5 feet. I count in centimeters forgive if I got it slightly wrong.

Then bending the twigs would be a good solution. It enables you to cover more yield. Also bending the twigs could increase the productivity of that particular twig.

I like to 'torture' the twigs early in flower (2/3 weeks 12/12) to increase productivity.

Cheers guys, I didn't read that bit about the monocrop thing before. Unfortunatly Im running Skunk #1, FreezeCheese '89, Euforia, Bermese Kush, Superskunk, Cole Train, Big Bud and Mazar.

Ah well, I'll give them another week before flipping I think.

Many thanks

I have a perfect story for the OP. I purchased three clones (Chernobyl, SFV OG Kush and Jilly bean). All just about 10 inches. Same light, almost same nutes (Jilly wanted more cal/mag). After about a month or so veg and 2 weeks into flowering the Chernobyl was over 6 feet, the kush was five feet and the Jilly bean was almost 4.

I run vertical with about 7ft ceiling.
I've flipped around 4ft tall (plant + container) and don't hit the ceiling. My sour diesel will only double in height when run vertical and it's pretty stretchy. Keep the bulb slightly lower than the tops during the first few weeks to limit the stretch. You can make them stretch half what they would normally if you want to by keeping the bulb real low.

Yea i have some sour diesels in my stadium, some vegged to the ceiling 3 1/2-4ft tall, they didn't stretch more than 6 inches. bulbs were as high as they could go but were level with the middle of the plants.
