looks like you need some browns, or that will become a stinky mess.

the chickweed will grow back from the roots as will nettles if your compost doesn't get hot enough just so you know.

try adding some local river sand and if you got it some charcoal powder. then youll have some seriously kick ass compost.

that "soil conditioner" is the aged pine bark fines everyone talks about.

it's supposed to make the ultimate potting medium

no need to spend any money on those things, with all those greens your shit will heat up fast if you give it the right amounts of carbon rich material.

you will be much happier with non manure based composts. the end result is far superior imo.

Can you take a picture of your tumbler from a far so I can see what it looks like? Thanks mountain, I want a tumbler. I can completely understand how that speeds things up and makes the whole process easier. Not having to turn it over with a shovel, just turn a handle sounds good to me!

Watching and learning. Great thread mountain. I'm walking in the same general direction. :) Just picked up some hardwood lump charcoal for biochar. Need to get a new pump for teas too.

Several months ago on CT_Guy's thread 'The Tea Article' I put up a link from a university study conducted in Canada and while it involved vermicomposting vs. thermal composting perhaps some of the study's results are applicable.

The worms which were fed a diet of only plant material along with rock dusts showed much higher microbial levels than casting which were from worm bins that had been fed a diet of plant material, paper and manure as well as rock dusts.
