Will this cause Indoor Market value to go up?

As we all know PGnE are installing smart meters everywhere here in California.

Now I don't condone stealing power but as we all know most cartels or bigger ops bypass the meters. My friend whose a commercial electrician of 20+ years just told me that they aren't going to be able to bypass the new smart meters because if it's disconnected or there's an interference In the line then it would notify PGnE and could def cause some problems for the person boosting power.

My thinking was that if This is indeed true then the cost to manufacture goods is going to go through the roof for anyone doing indoor and currently boosting power. The additional cost is sure to drive the prices up. Am I wrong or am I onto something?

your electrician is kinda right......

if the smart meter is disconnected, it will shut off and notify pg@e....

but, you don't have to disconnect the smart meter to tap the electricity(please, no pm's or asking about anything along these lines, you will be ignored and i will neg rep the shit out of you).....

to answer your question, NO, the prices will of indoor will not go up because there are to many newb growers dumping anything that resembles weed for dirt prices, making the whole indoor market cheap...

i know one thing smart meters will make it easy for them to catch theft. as they can monitor where the juice goes in real time. the guy installing mi meter was nice and we talked. my electrician said he could bypass this and that just for future refrence LOL

I don't get why these growers making huge dollars can't pay an electric bill

it always leads to trouble

I think you can tap the line before the box and steal power. But it might be easier for them to see where the power is leaking.

The smart meters are being put in place so they can lower the amount of energy your using when they need too, so a whole block doesnt get shut down because of an overload.
Right now they have to predict 24/7 how much power your neighborhood will use and if they get it wrong they melt the lines, which for them can be costly mistakes.
They will be able communicate with your devices and put them in a hibernation while they redirect power for a short period. Atleast this is the type of stuff they where talking about in the smart meter documentary I was watching.
The only thing i didnt understand is this, If they can make your dryer hibernate and stop producing heat for a short period of time do they still charge you for the supposed electricity running to the machine during the interferance ??

people can always get on CARE and pay below market rates.....my bill is only 250 a month and i run around 5kw plus TV, comp, etc...

my buddy who runs a 10kw without CARE pays 2k a month for electricity...hes about to get around it by having a "tenant" move in, tenant will be lower income bracket and hopefully apply for CARE under their name..

Stealing electricity = busted :)

The electric company pays way more attention to their distribution then people might think. There is new technology moving from east to west to help the elec company have tighter control over individual usage, so they can tell people to conserve.

for people interested in more info check out www.opower.com Im not saying it's in your hood, but it might be soon

I never quite got the whole stealing electric gig.

If your usage gets that high, go for a hike :dance013:

people can always get on food stamps and pay below market rates for food. same thing for health care.

Yo Tela, I had the same reaction when I read that. I always get pissed when people who obviouisly can afford it need to go on some CARE program. No offense to you Prop215, just my opinion. But then on the other hand, energy companies are the biggest scumbags in the world, and fuck paying them the crazy fees they charge.
