I water my plants with my tap water ,

but the ph from faucet it is 8.0

If i fill a couple gallon jugs and get the ph right in it how long will the ph stay good for

will it just stay where i adjust it to

or will it fade and i will end up having to adjust it again ?

I'm not sure about the answer to your question. But I find it interesting that the PH i n your area is 8, while in my area it's 7.

hey 420- the technical answer is- it depends on the quality of your ph down. it will flucuate a little over 1-2 days. if your ph is that high it must have lots of crap in it. i use filtered rainwater because my tap water is crap and i'm too cheap to spring for an ro unit.

If your PH is 8.0 from the tap, you should get a RO unit. No telling what kind of chems are in there. Could cause problems/stunted growth. RO units have come down in price the last couple of years. If you water your plants with bad water, you will end up smoking bad stuff ie heavy metals/bad chemicals etc... Also it will stunt your plants growth and lower yields. I use RO water and aireate for 24 hours befor using. Just my opinion.

Is your "tap water" from a well or a public water main? If its from a public main then it will have ph buffers that will counter the ph down you are using, raising the ph over time.

Why is that ?

i thought ph levels varies from 1 are to the next

Im sorry my man

But what is a RO unit ?

It is public

I got plants outside also that i use the creek water to water them with

Does the ph in creeks stay the same ?

i tested the ph again a few mins ago and its still the same

here is a pic of the pf test i used

honestly i wouldnt worry about that, i just fill my jugs leave them over 24 hours to let the chlorine dissipate. when they are ready to be used then i will add nutes and ph balance it, instead of letting it sit around for days with nutes and ph already in it, this way your ph is always as dead on as it will be.

another thing you may want to do is when you add ph to your jug, make sure you shake it well once its added, if you just add drops to the top of the water then make a reading off that it will be wrong. so make sure you mix the ph throughout the water before trying to get a reading so you know thats the exact ph.

another thing is if you are using tap you should get a brita filter of some kind and keep up with that, it should drop the ph quite a bit once its been filtered, plus get rid of all that horrible crap thats in tap.

i personally think using reverse osmosis is a bit ridiculous because its so expensive and you could just go to the store and buy distilled water which is better for 89 cents a gallon but thats just me.

A brita will do nothing but drop PPM of the water slightly. the filter will do sqat to affect PH.

I will agree with you that its better to mix your nutrients the day your using them and set your PH then. i wouldnt leave a nutrient water mixture on the shelf and keep using it, too many things that can grow in it and a real potential point of failure doing it that way. evaporation can throw off your PPM for instant.. making a boarder line hot mix way hotter then anticipated.

As far as the Original poster, try to set your water out over night and check the PH after 24 hours. I bet its more like 7.2-7.5 after 24 hours rather then 8 straight from the tap.

Keep it green

Temperature change affects PH. The water coming out of your tap that is 8.0 is also maybe 58 degrees? When it comes up to 70 to 80 it will be different.
