Bought a Lumatek ballast and was wondering about the 'Super Lumens' switch, can I run the ballast with it switched on all the time or will that fuck the bulb up?

I think the superlumens switch is only for hps bulbs only.
Im sure quite a few places advertise em on the web, say dont use MH with Superlumens swith.
Cant find my insructions, so cant check, sorry.

you want to break it in first before switching, keep it on normal lumens for a couple of weeks
then switch when the bulbs have settled or when you go into flower.

Yes you can. I use lumatek & I run it on 24/7 with no noticeable issues.

my 600 dimmables feel cool until i switch on superlumens...it makes the ballast hot to touch so i can't justify using it

i opened it and there was some melting

Cheers everyone, I'll certainly break the bulb/ballast in for a couple of weeks first and then I'll turn it on, if I get that heat/melting problem I'll just take it back.

Wow! Is that a lumatech? I nearly bought the dimmable!
I bought one a while back (600) but really havnet noticed any difference between that and my normal ballast, the electricity use seems the same from it too.
Havent tried the super lumens switch yet, might give it a go on this run they could do with the extra light i crammed 29 plants in there.
Does it make much difference to electricity consumption?

Interesting. I was going to get a dimmable digital ballast when i get round to buying a new light. Might just stick with a regular one if people cant notice much difference, or im going to have trouble with melting and all that. My crappy old ballast is like a workhorse, never let me down, so might stick with the old ones unless there proof they really are producing bigger buds/small elec bills.

That must be why Growell recommend a certain bulb with them the Osram Son T i think is what i have, i wondered why.
But i do like the Sunmaster bulbs!!
Dont those Plantastars need replacing every grow?

Hope that light and ballast serves you well.
Always found my plants love em, so have never turned back.

My cuz was saying the new dimmables are coming back in soon, a whole pallet load, so if you want em/some, you got first dibs i was told. Also, our good friend was saying your aircooled, cf, fan, hydro setups have been ordered, so we will let you know as soon as they arrive. Hope all is going well brother, and hope them plants are enjoying the new sun they got.

sometimes i wish i sold my bud so i could have expenxive things lol.

I hear that, it's my birthday next week so the good lady gave me some cash which I spent on upgrading my ballast as my 10 year old magnetic 250 was struggling.

My 600w Lumatek is locked on super lumens, wouldn't run it any other way... No melting ballast, it's only warm to the touch and my horti eye almost made it to the last week of flower before it melted it's insides... I don't mind replacing the bulb each grow if the results are good... small price to pay for some extra grams...

I was lucky enough to witness the bulb melting down, it was like a supernova, I bet it packed on a few grams in that 8 seconds alone.. lol

Run the super lumens!!!

Another quick question (didn't see the point in starting a new thread).

Since getting my 400w I've had 2 timers fail on me (Grasslin analogue), I have it going through a contactor so is it the contactor thats fucking the timers up? (the timers work but not with the lamp)

Cheers.
