Holy mackeral dude, you gave me a panic attack thinking about that roadrace!! My old man used to make me run those with him, I remember my 1st pair of New Balance shoes, the old man cringed and called me a pussy...8 weeks later he had them! His idea of entertainment was driving to the bottom of Taos Ski Valley and racing to the top.I hated him real bad on those days!!:)

Hate is a strong motivator lol.....I think I'm a garden variety masochist and tend to find all sorts of stuff to keep me going. The competitive streak has to come out somewhere healthy....and even then you wonder what allows it to surface.

Mostly I compete against myself....no one makes me put in the extra hills or keep going even when I'm feeling poor and sick. There ain't much glory in solitary training...and that's what it's all about. Being alone with myself and able to keep pushing....in a discipline where progressions come slowly and disappear quickly.

I thought it might be a good idea to join a runner's club....just to have others around to train with....but I know it wouldn't work for me. Having others regulate or put me on a certain schedule turns me off....and I like the isolation of running by myself. But club life looked good the other day....probably would benefit me in many ways.

The only reason I haven't started Ultra Marathons is because you have to train at slower paces...including speed walking the steep stuff.....whereas now I run everything at a harder pace and less distance. I know I can do 30 miles in one take....but not at the pace I like to run. Training for 30, 50, and 100 (plus) milers takes up a lot of time. The training is healthy....not sure the racing is. The competitive me....wants to race though...in a violent sort of way.

I always had a better time when I was older running/climbing alone.By the time my old man hit 60 his heart was 2x normal size from running soo much, they called it an "exploded" heart. His upper right thigh had also degenerated and atrophied, so like you said, pushing too far isn't so healthy. My knees are so bad now that 5 miles on the beach is fine, then I walk back.I puff a nice joint as a reward for hitting the 5 mile mark on sand...:)

Enlarged hearts in hardcore runners are pretty common. You hear it all the time...some great runner keels over off a bad ticker.

I try to cross train in the surf (body surfing off jetties in good rips) and have a work out tree for pull ups and dips (I'm 1 of 2 peeps I know that have a gym quality work out tree...and actually get their money out of it)......I swear by push ups, dips, and pull ups....absolutely... very important for maintaining strength and flexibility...you find out where someone is in their conditioning quickly by watching them do these sort of exercises.

I'm almost down to Iggy Pop body fat on a short frame....so keeping up strength is important.....the push ups, dips, and pull ups work the shit out of core....probably not as much as running distance on trails...but in a controlled fashion you can feel every core muscle. It all works together. Core strength is so important to form....

The lightly padded minimalist shoes I run in....proper form builds core and reduces joint injury....you can't run sloppy in minimalist shoes as it hurts like hell. Getting sloppy cost me a fractured pinky toe...not much you do with that sort of injury other than tape it and move on....but generally I think the shoes promote less injury. Padding seems to give one false security....and therefore one tends to get heavy footed and bone jarring on the joints as they slam their feet.

Smoking joints....are a great reward as are ice cream and Virgil's Cream Soda...that's my motivation for getting back to the truck. I fantasize about consuming calories.

I'm on it too! Kush beta list!!!

Just loving the thread here...don't post too much...but I read...oh boy do I read!

Yup...went over and checked it out. I saw that you were on there Monk. Some good peeps on that list.

I never much spoke to Rez....but he has been cool to me. I've never had a bad experience with his company (or beans) or his online persona. The dude cracks me up consistently....in positive ways. Seems like one of the brighter dudes around here. I'll accept the Beta list offerings with no reservations.

Busy you be. My shit is running smooth for the moment. The weather is jacking me....only 45 degrees today. The temps are bouncing all over......sailing the ship....exhaust timer on or off....depends on the OD temps. I've been known to wake up in the middle of the night and sense the temps had changed....had to take over the watch and navigate the vessel through the changes. That's the position...that's what we sign on for.

Had a I-HOP GK bust out some nanners today....1st time I've seen nanners on one of those. They came in clusters on the tips of the developing flowers (about 40some days in).....I've been experimenting with Phosphorous blasting....and I think that this girl was more sensitive to the P loading. Tweezers and some one on one time together....me checking her over: petting her and talking to her....she cried....I apologized. Made it better.

That stuff doesn't freak me out....it was my mistake....she was letting me know her limitations. If she does it again....I'll reconsider my position.

just installed the door, ready to do the final light sealing and plug in the ballast and do a dry run for a few hours to see how well the a/c is dealing with the lamp heat...

.....someday I'll redo mine. I'll see how much more I can get out of it. Not much will be changed for summer. I'll add a swamp cooler when the nights get warmer....and I'll add gas this fall....after I run on gas for a while I'll see where I am.

I don't think 3 moving 600s to be much....adding gas will maximize the room...don't want to add more light without redoing the cooling system though. I don't know if I'll have the motivation to rebuild the whole thing....I don't enjoy indoor gardening enough to justify getting technical or crazy with watts. As long as I can keep flowers blooming with realistic yields....I'll keep rat rodding....add some gas and I'll blast in this set up.

Indoor is fun and useful....but a form of slavery in many ways. Can't leave my system for more than a couple days....high maintenance.

lol....of course there is always that. We work for the high grade one way or the other. You are right....my habit/ritual of smoking herb + that of the wife= a silly amount of money....I could get #s of Mex for $350 I guess...but well...I'm kind of spoiled. Hasn't always been that way.

I hand out a lot of my weed to friends....barter away some for products/services....pays for itself. If I were to calculate an hourly cost of production....wonder how much it would be? How much money per hr is my time worth?

It's the travel aspect or lack of....that will shut me down. I won't let anyone else run my ship....few in life...have seen the inside. I don't trust most peeps beyond how far I can see them. Just not wise. I just do not thrive on drama like that....and don't much care for money either.

Since I started smoking when I was a kid.....I always wanted to grow my own. Later in life you realize your little dream....and go full tilt until you can do it no more....then you shut it down. Back in '79 I didn't know about indoor growing or that I'd ever pollinate my own work.....what a wild road...I can say....it has gone farther than I ever thought it would.

im too broke to travel much anyway,i do have a trustworthy but un-knowledgeable friend to plant sit when i go away, known him for 20+ years, trust him enough to climb with him...so i trust him,to some extent, with the children...

happy to report both lamps have been on for over an hour, temps are hanging right around 75 with 1400 watts over a 6x4 space, been cranking down the dial on the a/c,down to 3...looks good so far!!

.....I had a friend from out of state take care of my stuff back in '07 for a week....then came home and had to nurse the garden through 3 or 4 days of power out due to forest fire....then had the wife take care of it while I went to Canada for a week....all in the same couple of months time span.....talking a rough sea....house didn't burn down (kept firemen/LEO at bay)...Canada was crazy and stressful but worked out....all the time I'm worried about a silly garden.

It's completely retarded the way we must go sneaking about....over growing pot. I'm always thinking of being stealth...then go on the internet and blog it in public....I don't understand the big deal...never did. I grow a little pot....it seems juvenile that I need to be like a gopher about it....but I don't need to make issue with neighbors or have a desire to take up LEO's time.

Kick ass....get that shit up and running

actually i think at my level of garden size even if the po-po were watching they would see that any investigation would be economically un-feasible considering what i have going,im too small for them to afford to really dig at my life unless i do something stupid like sell a bunch of it,i use it as a swapping good as well so i dont ever sell in the traditional sense, its a useful chicken to have when your swappin!
