why did they need school issued computers if its such a rich area? didnt most of the students already have them at home? i wonder how many were actually issued, and who got them. if it only went to people that can't afford one, then, once again, they are taking advantage of the poor. do you think all the rich kids would want to use a shitty slower computer then the one their rich parents bought them? plus, its a instant status symbol" hey look at that kid, he's using one of those school issued computers, lol"

There are many other things to take into consideration aside from the social class. (And Im sure this had little to do with their decision)
One would be the laws of economics between the school system and the city. The city allots the SS so many $$$ based on their budget plan. Ask for more $$ and the reasoning sounds good so you get the $$$. Its a numbers game when it comes to budget cycles. (We have the money now, but might not have it next year)
Another thing would be proprietary EDUCATIONAL software that was put on these computers as well. Alot of these learning softwares are not readily available to the general public (nor would the GP have much interest in them) and the cirriculum(sp) in the classroom is based around these wares.
And finally, as much as it pains me to say it, it can also be used as a tool for 'monitoring' (of sorts) what the kids have and have not been doing as far as homework is concerned. "The dog ate my homework" excuse is a thing of the past. Now there is a digital record of sorts that shows whether the student even made an attempt at doing the assignment(s) or if they mismanaged their time playing solitare. Or even better yet, didnt even power the machine on.

Fork me if people cant boot n nuke a HD and reinstall an os they have no business using a computer.
Its like handing a loaded gun to a child.
I know these people are the victims but still...

When you buy a house you dont wait untill you have paid for it then get an inspection done only to find its full of termites.
When you buy a car you dont give the guy cash then find out later the guy you just gave the money to owes money on it when the bank repos it.
You dont send your life savings to some guy in india because he tells you there has been a banking error.
IMO while its sad that people are getting forked over and i do feel sorry for them this is just natural selection at work.
