Considering Opening a Dispensary

I want to hear from people who have looked at opening a dispensary in Ontario, or have opened one in Ontario. I want to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly. I can see there being many issues such as getting a DG license, being raided, etc but I'm curious. I'm willing to go through the hoops, and give my time to make this happen if it means helping a movement and providing healthy medicine to people who need it.

Cheers

Don't bother. Harper has his majority and will likely kill Canada's medical marijuana program leaving many Canadians like myself to suffer.

Sad Sad times.
I would rather die now than suffer under hapers cruel government.

True north strong and free my ass. But i bet all you fucking drug dealers on here are happy tho aren't you? This Country makes me fucking sick.

After doing more research i found out the cons cant kill the MMAR.
I copied this from another site.

"In 2000, in the case of R. v. Parker, Ontario’s Court of Appeal concluded that the government had no power to make a law prohibiting patients from accessing, cultivating, or possessing the cannabis they use as medicine. Until that decision, the law had made no distinction between patients and non-patients. The Court of Appeal in that case gave the government one year to change the law so as to make cannabis prohibitions apply only to non-patients. In response, the government introduced the Marihuana Medical Access Regulations (“MMARs“); regulations purportedly designed to ensure that patients, but nobody else, could access, cultivate, and possess cannabis."

I was not fear mongering i was just uninformed but thanks for being a jerk..

I've always wondered what the deal is...who gets the extra,is the extra destroyed?

What do the patients have to payout for the growers efforts and power billings?

I would never advertise anywhere on the net or in public as I believe harpers cronies will be watching
Despensaries in the states have been busted by both the DEA and the IRS. Be very careful, run it straight up and you'll be ok

The key is privacy and hope to hell the patients are cool peeps cause some can be bitches with payments and have little patience sometimes.

Legally one patients pot can't be shared with another patient. It's a fact written on a 15 plant license I was reading yesterday. Make sure they all like the same pot as cops are now able to DNA strains....I might be stretching it and being a bit paranoid but I believe in covering the bases!

And despensary may be the wrong word....."designated grower" is a better one for now as many just find a few 100+ plant licenses and go with that.

There are others on other forums here running co ops of designated growers,if you can find them and if they will answer they could teach you much of their experiences

Good luck

Just do it! Even if it is illegal, you will be demonstrating the people aren't gonna take an oppressive government.

I dont know much about Canada though, I am in California. However, a Florida man just won his cultivation case with a medical marijuana defense in a state that has no mmj.

However, do what you gotta do to make this world a better place!

Depends where in Ontario you want to go..

You need a not for profit/non profit first.

Toronto has 4 compassion centers at the moment ( maybe more )
Niagara falls has 1
London might still have one???

opening a dispensary is like opening any other business wether you register it as a non profit or not. personally from a purely business POV the ones ive seen except for a particular one or two have been run like a bunch of stoners running a business which often doesnt turn out too well

I thought nobody could open a dispensary period! Every license I've seen says you can't transfer any of one's medicine to another...co op can be done amongst designated growers and patients other wise one is selling illegally.

Am I wrong?

Hey MaryJane51,

I too share your passion to do something similar...unfortunately it seems like more of an out of reach dream occupation for me...at least with the way things are today.

A while back I remember seeing clips on youtube from the guys that started the compassion clubs in toronto (im sure you can still find them). From what I remember he says something like "whats my advice for people thinking of opening a club? ...dont do it!"

I think the reasons were obvious...trouble in the community, with the police/getting raided and what I imagine would be equally as stressful would be bringing your family or anyone that is linked/close to you down with you if things go south - and by the sounds of it, things do go south for everyone trying to do this at some point or another.

I dont mean to be a stick in the mud...definitely follow your dreams, just be sure you are really willing to jump through the hoops ahead of you - keeping in mind any family or other close relationships.

I would think your best place to start is to see if you could swing becoming a designated grower for someone. Seems to be the only way to get off the ground growing legally...and with the least start up expense.
This would give you a taste of what its like to provide for a seriously sick person...working with their budgets etc.

From there i think the idea is to form a collective/non profit for a number of licensed patients. How to round these people up...beats me?.

To my knowledge, there is no other way to just open up shop and start choppin.

I'd love to hear what other people with experience have to say as well....and also how you make out.

Best of luck!
