nice mix ganja D so the base of the mix is the compost? is the plan to make teas, you can always get your alfalfa in that way.

Yes,the base of the mix is the compost which will consist of 40% peat moss(spaghnum moss). The guy who owns the compost company is considering selling my soil recipe as a luxury soil. I had him hunt down the perfect worm castings.
I'm still debating making teas.

Damn that's a fire soil mix dude.

I'm curious about the percentages and such.

They look good man. I've been busy as hell, filling smart pots like a mofo. Got all my soil and still may need to order more. My custom mix came out great but I should have had them use more perlite. I'm adding more.
Every clone strain is different. Some can handle being put out early and others are trying to flower at the first chance they get. I might put some headband and blue dream out around the 18th but the Mr.Nice is staying under sup light till june. I would at least wait until May 15th.
Happy to hear you got a garden Yes4Prop,I just filled 20 200 gallon smart pots in the last 3 days.
I need to get a damn camera charger. I'm planting some seed plants tomorrow evening into 200's. Some DSD,SSH,and other stuff.

thanks for the advice...yeah i was thinking mid may too at minimum.....

newb question....but what problems occur if they go out early? since 12/12 is right around the corner it would keep flowering?

thanks again..

hey d what was your liming ratio and have you checked you ph? the mix used for my last season was at 7lbs per cubic yard and that ended up bein way too much. had a ph of 8 on the non ferted mix, 7 on the ferted. i know its gonna be different for everyone depending on the ammendments and amount of base. my base was peat.

ganja d, you are an organic gardner? and you debate making teas? in my opinion it's a no brainer.... compost tea every couple weeks to keep the biology juiced...guano teas once a week for some extra N or P .... most cost effective way to feed your plants organically. combine with a foilar 1-2 times a week and it's a winning recipe....

The debate is whether I can find the time to put something together, but I am planning on making and using organic compost and guano teas.

Yes4Prop: I would answer your question but I'm way too tired.

Localhero: I added less lime than I used in my mix last year at HL's. I would elaborate but I'm beat after a long day of working in the sun.

Warthog: My soil mix has 12k pounds of worm casting.

Stickky: What up man?

Thats one thing I never understoond about that garden last season. A lot of time and energy was devoted to that garden, and dont get me wrong, the meds looked great at harvest, but the strain choices seemed kinda off. Not the type of strains I would put that much energy into. Not with whats available. I love your stlye Ganja D, you have an obvious passion for what you are doing. Ive always had the same issue each season, starting way too many seed, and Im on the East Coast. Ive got to hide my gardens, and they have to be hidden well. Rippers are really bad out here, and on top of that, Cops, Critters, and weather are all issues. Mold resistance, and strong hardy plants are what I breed for. Of course, Potency, taste, and yield as well. But doing mostly guerilla grows, I like to grow landrace, for their hardiness, and low maintenance. Landrace, and landrace hybrids. Im excited to see what you have planned for this season, and I will be right here every bit of the way rooting for you. Good luck this season! :jump:

Last year HL planned the gardens and the smart pots were not spaced out far enough. Instead of 15 ft from center to center they were more like 10-12 feet. The plants shaded eachother out and many never received proper sun after they grew to a certain size. Also the property is on a steep hill and does not get the best sun light to begin with. One garden wasn't in full sun until after 12:15 pm each day.
Also our soil mix was not strong enough and many of the ingredients were cheep brands which contained mostly filler. The whole "no bottled nutrients" idea was taken way too far. I was only allowed to top dress with a very good compost and 2 types of guano. One of those guano HL chose is not available to plants until it breaks down and is a product I would never chose to use. Our plants ran out of energy as the flowering season came upon us and there was nothing I could do. I watched them lose vigor and yellow and was told to let it be. I actually spent thousands of my own money and hand fed all the gardens by hose, pump, and 50 gallon barrels. If I hadn't done that it would have been a disaster and I was only feeding 1-3% of the nutrients the plants needed once a week for a few weeks. HL never even knew I did it,he probably does now, lol. I kept everything 100% organic. We should have at least used teas.
Strain selection was the biggest disaster. The strains have been pollen chucked for years with no real though or analysis behind male selection. Most of the PTW X GF strains were inbred for years and lacked any vigor. They mold very very easy and is bland herb to say the least. For instance Reservoir and DG strains planted 3-5 weeks later caught up to and surpassed almost all of HL's strains in size, strength, and health.
If we had better strain selection, soil, nutes, and spacing I have no doubts we would have grown 8+ pounds in every 300 gallon smart pot. Too much emphasis, time, and energy was put into infrastructure like hoops instead of actual growing of plants. I worked sun up to sun down almost every day with no breaks and did the best I could.
The worst mistake was the Twister,it is very much like selling your soul to the devil. After 2 years of it being used at HL's gardens he still hasn't got it to the point of it being more financially efficient then paying hand trimmers. And with the price of trimmers going down to 150 a pound next year will be even less cost efficient. That machine literally made my eyes tear with sadness more times than I'd like to remember. Thanks god I saved our good strains from it.
So as far as 300 gallon smart pots they're great, but these were our shortcomings about last season. I learned a lot but that is not how growing is supposed to be. Around here HL is referred to as Darth Vader or Walmart. I want nothing to do with politics, but will not sit quietly when people are being misled from the truth. The Humboldt Growers Association is worse for cannabis growers then Richard Lee and is a scam at creating a monopoly and wiping out the competition or forcing them to pay outrageous fees most can't afford and control all distribution in Humboldt. They have bought politicians and are encouraging local law enforcement to target indoor growers with over 1200 watts. They want control of the market and will use law enforcement by misleading them. They must be stopped or they will ruin the way of life in this area for so many. I could go on for hours and hours.

Wow,after reading your post I realize I talked a lot of shit and feel badly. HL did give me a once in a lifetime opportunity and I did learn a great deal as well as mature a lot myself, and for that I will always be great full. I probably shouldn't have wrote all that stuff here, but I do love sharing my experiences growing and those were my experiences. Regardless, when I left HL Farms he and I were on good terms and our relationship had no issues based on how last season went. We ended our year with a hug and a handshake. That was Dec though.
But yea,I'm growing lots of good strains this year, very very good strains.
