250 Watt mini-vertical scrog

Hey ICMAG thought I would share my current grow. I dont post much, just usually watch and admire the amazing talent on this site. Im still very new to growing but have 3 harvests under my belt. Ive been using the scrog method with great success. My cab is tall, but lacks depth, and width, making a flat scrog screen very small (maybe 12 in by 20 in) I then made a half pipe/ v scrog, and then I enclosed the sides and flipped my cooltube vertical and there you have it.

As stated the light is a 250 hps in a bake-around cooltube. The cab is cooled by a 6in vortex on a contoller (overkill I know) and scrubbed through a can 33 filter. I also have a couple computer fans for intakes. Temps vary usualy 78 at the base of the pots, and maybe 82 at the tops sometimes higher, sometimes lower, but pretty consistent. Humidity is 35-40 %.

Growing 2 aurora indicas both feminised. Have grown her before and she always outperforms her competition. Better, faster growth, bigger denser buds, and of course great smoke. Growing in 3 gal smart pots with bcuzz coco, with some hydroton. I dont usualy "cut" my coco as I dont think its necessary, but came up a little short on coco so I added some hydroton I had laying around. Nutrients are HG coco line with multizyme, also using canna rhizo, PK 13/14. Plants have been doing great. One seems to be laggin a little behind in bud development, but is still drinking alot and seems healthy. I just think its a diferent pheno, maybe a late bloomer, she smells amazing though. I believe I vegged about 6 weeks from seed. They are now 6 weeks into flower. Once their res is empty it will be straight water from now on.

I have my pots suspended allowing me to water with runoff and not having my plants sitting in waste water.

Here you can see the hole for the cooltube. This allows me to raise and lower my light as much as I want. It is crowded though and you can see some light bleaching.

Thanks for stopping by. I will try and keep you posted as this grow comes to a close.

Hey man, looks great. I have a similar thing going, my shed is very tall and skinny. Do you have leaves resting against the cooltube? I'm going to use bare bulb 250s and am trying to figure out distances for my first vertical grow. Thanks and good luck.

Hey Goozman thanks for stopping by. I saw your cabinet, and mine is almost identical. Same rubbermaid type material. As far as leaves go I pull alot of them. I know people hate this practice but with cramped growing space, and small wattage it works well. I do have some light bleaching but there isnt really any way to move the plants or fix the problem. Having some type of cage around the lights will help greatly. This gives you alot more control and allows you to pull the heads through toward the light. I cant say how far away it should be. I have used a 250 in a bare bulb setup and they do get pretty hot. Cool tube allows me to get my plants real close to the bulb (sometimes too close). Bare bulb I would say no closer than 6-8 in. Hope that helps. PS how does ur cab do with humidity and temps being outside? Just curious. Good luck on ur cab I would love to use 2 250's. peace.

Thanks for the kind words Aero. To answer your question no I have not yeilded with this setup. This is my first try at vertical but I like it alot. It is quite a bit of work though. But once the stretch stops its just a waiting game. In my previous scrog grows with two plants and a 250 I pull around 6 ounces everytime. I hope to pull a little more with this grow. Growing from seed is my biggest flaw. I love the aurora indica but with feminised seed its kinda a stab in the dark as far as how they will yeild. I soon want to start cloning I just dont have the room right now. Thanks again. Peace.

I live by the coast in SoCal and so far with my first two grows temps and humidity matched ambient for this cool and humid coastal region, though I never kept too close an eye and couldn't tell you exactly. With the bare bulbs now I notice when I hold my hand close that it's kind of warm, not like with the air-cooled hood I had in there before that didn't put out any heat. Still, so far so good.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. To compare my grow to Aero's is quite an honor. Those are some huge trees! I definetely see the similarities, just mine is on a much smaller scale. You sure do get tons of bud sites with vert growing. Gonna be alot of work trimming all these medium sized nugs, but I am not complaining. Just flushed the girls with about 6 gal of water, and some multizyme. Now they will get just straight water from now on. I plan to harvest at about 9 wks so this will be a good 3 week flush. Thanks again. I'll post some pics later on. Peace

Oh and one more thing. I have been using a little blackstrap molasses, and I know it is organic. Is it ok to give molasses even during flush being that it is organic? or will it negatively affect the final taste? im sure I can find this answer easily, just thought id see if anyone had a quick answer. thanks.

Week 7

Week 7

Hey everyone. Just hit 7 weeks so I thought I would post some pics. Not alot has changed, just letting them rippen on the vine I guess. As stated earlier I am taking these girls to 9 weeks. I usually go 10 wks but gonna try 9 as AI is an indica dominate strain. Just giving them alot of straight water. They are drinking tons and I am hoping their still growing. Light bleaching seems to be my biggest problem. These girls just like to get too close, but to be honest it really doesnt concern me that much. I will probably post pics weekly til harvest then show some jar shots that I know everyone likes so much. Thanks.

I do like me some jar shots :) very impressive grow. What are the dimensions of your cab? It's not the same one as mine right? I'm excited for your harvest, what do you think you will yield?

Hey guys thanks for the kind words. I am still new and maybe a little self concious about my growing, so getting positive vibes from such talented people is nice.

Goozman- I dont remember the exact demensions (not good with numbers) but would guess 5.5 ft tall, 1.5ft deep, and 2 ft wide. No our cabs are not exactly the same but pretty much. I wouldnt recomend people use these rubbermaid type material cabs. Mine is falling apart after about 4 grows. They are easy to customize tho, all you need is a box cutting knife. As far as yeild, I have no idea. Once again one plant is doing great while another is lacking in dense buds. Cannot wait to start cloning. I think 8 oz is very possible in this grow but will need good yeilding clones. To all of you that can just do down the street and buy clones to you I say "I am jealous".

Aero- thanks for the positive review. I have been watching your current grow for a while. Very impressive to say the least. Yes my 250 serves my purposes very well. Probably a perfect wattage for a personal stash. I have read through the 250 watt club forum probably a dozen times. Alot of talent there. Thanks again and good luck.

Dudesome- Yes they are smart pots. I guess their sales pitch sold me. I have used 2 gal for a couple grows with great success and upgraded to 3 gal for this grow because of a longer veg period to fill in the screen. To be honest I do not notice any diference in size or bud develpment with a bigger pot.

Thanks everyone. Will post more pics at week 8. Cannot wait for harvest. I get that excited feeling in my stomach like when I was a kid waiting for xmas morning lol. Cant rush things tho. Gotta wait. Peace.

Hey guys sorry for not posting in a while. Had some important things to take care of. Well the grow is complete. Unfortunately this was probably my worst grow yet. All dry my total came to exactly 4.25 oz's. I made some keif and canna-butter as well. Pulled a little earlier than planned on 15 of april at 62 days. Dried at about 55% humidity for a slow dry them to paper bags and now into jars. Thanks for all the kind words everyone, and happy growing. Peace

Hey that looks great. Sorry it's not what you expected but full jars are always nice. Your setup is pretty cool, and changes for next run? And if this was your worst run out of this cab, what was your best? Just curious. And how's the smoke?

Hey Goozman, yea I'm still real happy to have some full jars. The smoke is pretty harsh as they arent done curing. A week or two more of burping and they will be great. As far as my best I got a little over 6 oz, but I got 6 a few other times. My first scrog I messed up and let them grow about a foot above the screen. This actualy worked in my favor giving me dozens of 6-8 in colas. This is what I probably will try for my next run. As with your cab I have plenty of vertical room to let them grow tall, but not too tall as its only a 250.

Nice job man.

I just got done building a smaller cab with plans of running a dual DIY 150 HPS setup. At first I was going to do the standard horizontal grow, now I think I might change that around to vertical.

My Flower space is 24" x 27" x 3' tall. Some nice inspiration here, now I just need to figure out how to build a cooltube for these lights. My problem is the wiring is in those 4" metal electric junction boxes, and I have no idea what will fit around them. I don't really want to rewire unless I must because they are nice and safe the way I have them setup.

Anyways, great job!:tiphat:
