how much air do plants need in the dark?

not much

not much

If there just clones, then they don't need a lot of fresh air. Just opening the closet door every 5 -6 hours should be fine. Maybe a small fan to move the air as well. Hope this helps :)

thanx I didnt think so but ive never cloned before and I will be using a bubbler tray for them so thats pumping air in there so it should work

The pump can only pump what air is in the closet so, if closet air is bad, so is the airpump's.

That said, if a few small plants is all we're talking about, opening the closet once a day should provide sufficient air exchange between closet and house air.

well the deal is I want use the bottom of closet to sex clones and I thought it might be easier to just put a box down there with a bubbler instead of trying to black out bottom now my closet is next to my front door which is open until it gets above 80 but door is always open so from what you said the air pump has fresh air all day so Im thinking it will work pretty good

Same question as Guitarphene's title, but for a different reason.

During bud cycle I shut the room tight to keep it dark, no lights on so the plant does not need air flow. Or so I thought.
Some plants do their major carbon dioxide absorption at night in the dark. I have not heard this about pot, but I have not heard they don't.

Anyhow, does pot stay active all night? should I install duct fans with 90 degree bends to keep out light while moving fresh air in?
Or does a tight room not matter one way or the other in the dark?
So many questions, so few searches. I try the easy way first.:kitty:

Hey Phaeton,

Marijuanna is a C3 plant like 90% of the world's plants and trees. They take in carbon dioxide during the photoperiod and give off oxygen. Durring the dark period they take in oxygen and give off carbon dioxide.

Plants are 24 hr factories, they are always doing something. Certian chemicals (auxins) and hormones (florigen) ebb and flow based on whether they are in dark or light. This is what controls what the plant is doing, vegging or flowering.

During the dark period (during flowering) it is very important that they not be interrupted by any stray light....this is the major cause of hermies.

Hope this gets you started on learning about the plant you're growing.

I'm going to take that as a 'yes the plants need air movement in the dark' answer.

I catch myself patronizing people also.:D

You do need air circulation or at least an exhaust cycle at night, besides giving off co2 they give off moisture, it's called transpiration.

Didn't mean to sound patronizing, usually if I'm cranky I simply tell the person to read a book about horticulture or plant biology and....try to be smarter then the plant you're growing. But I didn't.

BTW, The more you know...the better you'll grow.
Hey I like that one, pithy and quotable!

:yoinks:Uhhhh, and how did you, painroad, add to the interlectural advancement of this thread?

Patronizing or not, I provided some much needed (apparently) basic plant function information that should be known by a grower.

OM:thank you:

I hate not knowing stuff. When plants take up co2 at night the leaves taste more tangy in the morning than in the evening, most plants do not do that, see, I know more today than yesterday. Still do not know names or classifications, too lazy, but learning enough basics so as to ask more obscure questions.

At least I got a real answer, and phrased so I would actually have to go read something to get context. I'm good with that.
