What's new

Hello ICMag Folks! OG refugee, time to earn my citizenship!

Hi all,

Long time lurker of this and a number of other forums since OG shut down (New username now :artist:).

About Me;

I've been growing for about 11-12 years now, but haven't grown indoors for a few years... I'm now catching up with things by use of the Search feature. I'm of the opinion now that there isn't many questions that haven't been asked and answered well - and I've found a ton of great information in recent research expeditions, which is leading me to my new adventures with indoor growing.

Among other normal things (i.e. socalising and having a few drinks with friends or family), I like geting away with my wife and kids, camping, fishing, listening to music & looking at ICMag forums.

I've always been totally addicted to the 'science' of growing great plants be it grass or veggies, constructing and tweaking my indoor grows, experimenting with all sorts of systems and learning new things all the time. Upon my return to indoor growing, the 'scene' has really moved forward alot, things are cheaper, there are more nutrient's out there for me to experiment with (should I want to) and even more strains available - this makes a return to indoor experimental growing really exciting!

My Story (cut short as possible), not that I expect you to be bothered :dance013:;

Many years ago when I had just passed the 'virgin' phase of growing, a fellow OG'er sent me a few seeds of Jack Flash and Jack Flash x Super Skunk, sadly I was too amateur to do any breeding and I only had one seed left (in 2011)... then in 2005 (I think), I made a purchase of seeds which consisted of Nirvana White Rhino, K2, NL x BB, Mr.N Dreamtime, Spice Brothers 303, Sensi Seeds Shiva Shanti II, and Seedsman Seeds Swazi Redbeard, the freebies I got with the order were called Indonesian Diesel... then during some time in Amsterdam I picked up some Flying Dutchmen Kerala Kush and Early Durban, Female Seeds Blueberry, and some freebies called South African Durban x Skunk #1.

I grew out a few crops of the K2, this shit is potent, but I never got the strain to it's potential in the setup I had going, I also tried the WR and NLxBB but these weren't much on the K2. Hardly any of the Swazi's germed and what did, went male so I crossed this male with a mixed strain crop I had in consisting of many of the above strains, consequently I have quite some seed stock if things get desperate, I don't want to try these out yet as I feel they may be heavily sativa influenced - BUT WHAT I'M GETTING TO IS;
I've been pouring over info trying to decide what strains to try with my new indoor grow (of which there will be a diary soon), which will be a stealth cab only 250w HPS - I prefer a heavy yielder and somehting that's not going to get too big, it's taken me a long time to have an order of preferance, and sadly, I've had very poor germination rates. My first pref was the Shiva Shanti 2's, they didn't sprout, the last Jack Flash didn't sprout, neither did one of the Dreamtime (the biggest fattest seed, as I've read Dreamtime mix is mainly Sativa). I've got a White Rhino to sprout but it may not make it further, tap root doesn't seem to be doing much, fingers crossed! I've just put in all (5) of the SA Durban x Skunk #1 (Sam The Skunkman freebies) as I don't think they'll sprout from what I've read - I'd rather have them gone from my seed collection if they don't! I've also just put in a NLxBB, we'll see what happens - I'm in no rush to get the motherplants as the cab still has to be constructed, I'm going to do things properly, slowly this time and I don't want 15 motherplants! I'd rather slowly work my way through all my preferences and just order some more when the time calls or I get itchy feet for a new strain I've seen other people growing! The sativa dom stretchy strains like the 303 can wait till another outdoor grow...

I've recently done a bit of outdoor growing, though we've had bad summers, and also I've had bad grow sites... either way I've managed to get a bit of smoke. I've also done another cross of a male NLxBB with female Blueberry, 303, K2 & an unknown female of which seed was donated to me - these should be ready in a few weeks and I'd be interested to try one of these down the track - but for now my preference lies with seeds from the breeder themselves.

If you made it this far :tiphat: I look forward to hanging around and documenting my grow's for me, and for you all who may be interested! I hope I can help people as I was helped so many years ago by such a great community of poeple!

So I managed to dig out a few pics that weren't lost with OverGrow.. Thought I'd throw them up for the heck of it, pics to follow!

First and last Hydroton grow!

First and last Hydroton grow!

This system running Jack Flash actually worked well but root rot plagued me and I lost faith in this system quickly, also alot of things to go wrong (pipes clogging with roots) etc...

Jack Flash SOG Coco style..

Jack Flash SOG Coco style..

Went coco and never wen't back, only due to it's very low maintenance, yep I'm a lazy bastard! Never got this strain or pheno to produce what it should have, actually similar problems as the K2 (smaller buds), maybe something to do with coco, nutes, light, heat, or overwatering, as the hydroton grow produced the fattest Jack Flash buds even though I had bad root rot .. who knows now it was so long ago! So much learning going on!

NLxBB, White Rhino and K2 SCROG, COCO cont..!

The K2 towered the rest, and it was a bit full in there but from this grow I decided to stick with K2 for another grow!

K2 ONLY! Coco really is great! Only 3 plants thins time round!

Sadly I was always getting something wrong, and always ended up with smaller buds.. I've now learnt alot more and hope to get fat buds with my future indoor grows, so many things I was doing wrong!! Ahh how wisdom is wonderful!

And now to 2009-10 outdoor!

Bad summer, even worse positions (not enough hours direct sunlight)- only got about 18oz from 9 plants, killer smoke though even if it was light and fluffy - these were my own cross Swazy Redbeard x Indonesian Diesel!

2010-11 Outdoor!

2010-11 Outdoor!

Even worse summer, better positions but small pots as I had to keep them in a specific size cage... bloody possum has attacked my 303 a few times, which is still flowering - it stretched heaps and the little bastard reached in and pulled it to the side of the cage for a munch! Only 1-2 oz's per plant this year's outdoor crop... from 4 plants, pretty rubbish really... pics are K2 by nirvana, then some donated seeds, both suffered from bud rot, the K2 worst of all but only a couple of grams in total! mmm can't wait till it's all dried and cured!

And the last pics...Mixed strain grow (2005?)!

This was some fun! A real nightmare actually but got some really different smoke! This is also where the pollenated clones (swazi redbeard x ) went for seeding!

Hey Marathanman - Thank's for popping in!

I'm sure the K2 could have been a better yielder, but as I said - I didn't dial things in properly and always ended up with small buds (indoor growing) - though even the plant I grew outdoors this year didn't have massive buds, not as big as the blueberry, but did have a very very strong build, and the buds are tight as.. maybe it's the trait of this strain.. maybe not.. I've got a couple of K2 seeds left (they might not pop though) plus all the seeds from the NLxBB X K2 cross I've just done, this cross might fatten things up, at least I've saved some of the K2 genetics! TTK
