BICYCLING ACROSS THE US - Which States to Avoid?

Okay, so basically this summer a friend and I have a cross-country bike trip in the works. I figured I would stop by here and ask all you TD creatures..

If you were making this trip, are there any states you would avoid, and WHY?

I find that question to be a little childish, It's to broad a question with many reasons to avoid any state you ride through..

If your tires are in the State of Flatness... you are in deep trouble!

Better run then... LOL

Florida and Alabama have draconian pot laws, zero tolerance in many counties and forfeiture laws, just so you know. Mississippi decriminalized small amounts.

I had bad experiences with several drivers in AZ on a Grand Canyon to Mexico ride a few years back. But then again, a-holes exist everywhere so it could have been just a run of bad luck.

If you're riding west to east you should absolutely try to hit RAGBRAI. It's always the last full week of July. I can give lots more info on it if interested. It's truly amazing and would give a nice break to the normal solitary riding you'll experience on your trip.

Best of luck. I'm super jealous. I'm sure you'll have a blast and memories of a lifetime.

It would be pretty crummy if they took your bikes and made you walk. lol

Let me know when you are coming by so I can hook my Radio Flyer to your back wheel so I can get to the store.....wear a helmet you will need it!

Thanks for the input, but I ask a broad question because I am looking for all sorts of answers! I would love to hear many reasons to avoid any state I'd have the possibility of riding through so I can choose for myself which reasons will take play under my particular circumstances, yadig?...Not sure why you have to call me childish, maybe you're havin' a bad day, but no reason to be an ass :blowbubbles:

states with hills between you & your destination.......

Well, we'll be heading from East to West...if that helps!

The Rocky Mountains

Thanks for the input, the Rocky's would definitely be a challenge! :thank you:

Def. don't travel thru Hawaii or Alaska.

:p

Oh har-har, very funny

Thanks for another great response! :) I agree, a-holes are everywhere. We are actually going from East to West, and I cannot wait for so many great memories!

Hell yeah man! We will be wearing helmets, but I do plan on letting my long hair flow in the wind pretty often :dance013:

Stay the fuck away from Oklahoma and Utah for damn sure. You're gonna get hassled in pretty much every state if you go through a small town though, little town cops are the biggest assholes in the world.
