Which Landrace Strain Has The Longest Flowering Period?

hello IC universe,

Does anyone know which landrace strain
has the longest flowering period out of all the
strains on Earth? If you have personally had
experience growing that strain that would be
ideal, but if you remember reading something
about a strain with a super-long flowering
period that is cool too.

The reason i ask is i have been wondering
about all the factors that contribute to the
length of the flowering period. I wonder if it
has to do with reasons other than the strain's
specific position in relation to the equator....

We all know about super-short flowering
strians like Lowryder, the ruderalises, Top 44,
and i have seen reference to a 35-day clone
but have yet to confirm this. I wonder how
easy it is to breed this short-flowering-period
trait into strains? Anyway if you have info
on the longest-flowering-strain and its
geographical location i would be very grateful.

-kind regards, the inquisitive guineapig

I like the way you think GP.
Alot of strains will go 16-17 weeks, some say more. (Malawi comes to mind)

Malawi will be finished in 90-120 days if you start into 12/12. (temp dependant)
Vietnamese & Fijian are the longest flowering varieties I have tried & must be 17 weeks +

I am forever selecting the fastest Malawi couples & have been busy shortening
flowering period of Malawi over 5 years.
I will release when I am done!

GP have you spyed the egg card add on sky satelite channels?
They test the Credit Card on GPs - its Strange Humour!

Cool Runnings.....

took a panama red and ohaze to 20 weeks, and they could of went longer, from seed.

from clone should finish in 16 weeks.

will let ya know in a bit on dalat, which from seed goes 22 to 24 weeks, two different lemons thai's, manga rosa, and columbian gold.(MR/CG from clone) also can pitch in on how much C99 brings the dalat down in flower as have some up and goin.

been on a sativa kick lately:D

Dunno , my first time, but I'm at 120+ days with no end in sight. Every pistil white and buds aplenty.

She's seven feet tall and damn wide. Will it ever stop?

I've grown landrace Thais, Zamals and many varieties of hazes and other long flowering strains..and in the past 10 years lots of commercial varieties..all in the sub tropics

the first plants I grew were Thai and I grew them for years in the bush...once you grow Thais outdoors, any other strain is a piece of cake in terms of ease....I used to plant 20 seeds to get one or two femmes to harvest due to males, natural losses and lots of heart braking hermies that can pop up at any stage from pre-flowers to late in flowering.......I've had 12 foot plants that were unsexed in September...that turn hermie in November and have to be cut.....don't count your chickens when growing Thais!

Thai is the strain I have found with the longest flowering duration and would be similar to other equatorial and tropical strains......I don't flower indoors, so I have no idea of how many weeks in 12/12..but some grown outdoors @ 25 Lat will still not finish by the end of Winter and start to re-vegg in Feb or March with the increasing photoperiod....keep N levels medium in early flowering and low in the last month of flowering, Thais, like many other sativas should be virtually leafless and all bud at harvest otherwise you are probably picking leafy, early, airy, unsatisfying bud not the stuf legend are made of.....most people say sativas are loose and airy, but if allowed to fully flower and mature the buds many will be resiny and compact if grown right...

I've had plants that were germinated in the ground in January, showed sex in August or September and were still a month or more from being ripe even in the following January ... Thais trickle very slowly into flowering mode and flower in waves of new growth for 4 1/2 to 5 or more months.

It's important to plant Thais and other longer flowerers in a position so they will get sun during Sept ~ Jan...grown sideways against a sun facing rock wall or on a sunny hillside is ideal...Thais need more than a few hours of weak Winter sun each day to realize their potential

I find it's best to harvest any plant that shows the first signs of revegging because what bud there is will deteriorate....if you want, leave some growth on the plant, feed with N and it will regrow and supply clones for the upcoming season.

I'd much rather grow Zamal than Thais..as they are faster to finish, easier to grow and have a wonderful high with the longest duration I've had..the secret to growing Zamal is to give them lots of vegging time....this strain, like many tropical landrace's flowering trigger is determined not only by the photoperiod but also by the age and size of the plant ( this is why once you have a female Zamal in early flowering, make sure to clone her as these clones are much easier to keep manageable for indoors...i would not suggest growing a landrace from seeds indoor unless you have the patience of Zen monk....and a high ceiling!..but clones can be grown in 2 or 3 gallon pots....take clones in the first month or two of flowering and they will readily root under 18 or 24 hours light per day

you really can't call yourself a grower of ganja if you haven't flowered a few equatiorial landrace sativas from Africa or Asia.....it's a marathon, but worth it!

btw landrace seeds tend to be slower to germinate and tend to have slow and fast germimating seeds from the same seed mother...most take 10 ~ 16 days to pop the surface, some are slower which is nature's way of ensuring some will survive young seedlings stage...make sure to maintain warm soil temps during this time...medium to low nutes during the first few months and keep the N up to them for the first 3 months of flowering

Hi Chamba,
Great Name! - it is the Malawi Chichewa language word for Ganja but I expect you knew that.
Sounds like you grow mostly outdoors.

Afropips Malawi Gold is very fast germinating - apx'48hrs with high temp & humidity.

You are correct regards some seeds taking longer to germ, from the same mother.
That is why it is important not to throw out ungermed pots.
I often find those that did not germ within 5 days germ much later,
some up to 6 weeks later.
Correct! This is to ensure the survival of the species.

Sativas like Malawi are very easy to grow indoors fro seed.
The trick with Sativas Indoors is to germ into 12/12 flowering & keep grow room temp very low.
Malawi will then end up apx' a metre in height.

I am curious regards the genetic origin of the plant & origin of the word - Zamal.
In the early nineties I exported Malawi Gold to friends
in Mauritius, Reunion & Australia amongst places!

Cool Runnings........

PS: I would not consider myself patient or a Zen Monk, Lol

the longest i`ve ever seen was a sativa strain from my old hippie grow guru that finished in 20 weeks, i`ve heard of ones going 25+ but havent seen them with my own eyes.

The longest flowerers Ive grown personally are thai varieties,
They go 16-20 weeks and then some...
Colombian is similar.

But there are varieties that flower much longer...
They are equatorial jungle plants that are 100% mold resistant and flower for 6 months to a year....

I heard the buds are very leafy and wispy to the point they dont look like cannabis but they will stone an elephant (hey, a year of THC production can do that)

BTW IMO its likely that the black african bud people talk about on the forums and dj short has mentioned is a jungle strain, possibly Congolese.

The longest flowering sativas are the ones located in the ecuatorial places... from southern asian landraces (thai, cambodian, laos...) to the highland colombians and some hardcore africans. A dope haze could do the trick too ;)
