You could add some perlite for extra drainage. Ocean forest already has lime in it. I would ph ur water to 6.5 tho. I would choose the 400w as it penetrates deeper and would make some denser nugs. You might need to air cool it tho if its in a small cabinet. I've used fox farms out of the bag many times it works just fine. It has plenty of nutes for veg but u need to supplement in flowering with a nute regime. U said u were gonna use earth juice so that works. Goodluck on ur grow.

Nice bud that sounds like a good mix. I just mix in a bunch of perlite. How often does your soil dry out and how often do you water? I only hear of gnat issues from people here on the forums i've never got them personally i like the soil.

I used to use it right out of the bag with nothing added. It works good this way - in fact I think it was designed to be used this way. :)

For flower you can mix in 1 tbsp blood meal and 2 tbsp bone meal per gallon of soil. No need for anything but water after that. I add perlite 20-40% to ffof. You do not have to, but I and others do.

I use amended (perlite, lime, and POM) ffof, but yeah you'd prob be just fine runnin straight ffof. And yes the gnats are a bitch.

The Only issue people seem to have with FFOF is that it is a little too hot for seedlings and freshly rooted clones. Most people go with a 50/50 mix of FFOF/Light Warrior. IMO FFOF is one of the best well rounded amended soils that you can use straight out of the bag, the only reason I have move away from it is because I like to experiment.
As for fungus nats, They seem to be the cost of doing buisness with using organic soils. I have had them with the most expensive and cheapest soils. Covering the surface of your soil with hydroton and using fly paper should eliminate them

Hmm. I've had gnats. They probably came from FFOF (small cab, filtered intake, no outside materials, ect).

You could get gnats from FFOF because it is inherently gnatty or because it was stored outside or somewhere gnats would get at it. It might be the manufactures fault, but then again the retailer, distributor, or shipper may be to blame.

I used to not think this but then I burned some seedlings. :) I would recommend cutting it a bit with something for seedlings.

i was thinking of cutting it with coco coir. i started to use coco in my last grow i did 2 years ago and found it to be the best mix. i use to mix my own soil it was called vics super soil peat based .so i added coco and it gave me the same growth rate of some hydo grows but with soil.

FFOF straight is dense and hot.....cut it with some light warrior and perlite and she gets alot better...and ive never had problems with fungas gnats. even when i had them doing hydro they werent even a big deal...put up a few sticky traps so that they dont die getting stuck to the trichomes, that was my only problem. quite a few fungas gnats were smoked my first few harvests lol....

I definitely agree with cutting it; ffof is way to hot for seeds and clones but I'd use a quality potting soil with no amendments. If you already have coco, I'd save it for clones; the coco deters bugs and mites from invading your garden. Happy growing.
