clones in coco vs soil

anyone have an opinion of placing clones that are in rockwool (with small root nubs...not tails) into soil or coco. im not the brightest when it comes to clones. this was my first time getting them so young.

also, once in coco or soil cups...how often to water for success? thanks. nutes to use? i have a 400 watt MH in a 4x4 tent. my buddy said to angle the light a bit off the light so it's not too strong on the lil clones.

any info who be appreciated.

happy easter!

Hi when i used rockwool i would let the roots start poking out the bottom then pot up up to a 4 inch pot of coco or soil, bottom feed them in a tray and keep under cfls or t5's till good roots are showing then move under MH and pot up to a one gallon pot and do the same as above final TP into a three gall then 12/12. :) B

nice, thanks for the advice. cfls/t5's for less stress than the MH? roots were spurting down so i places them in coco cubes...they are looking pretty good thus far :)

cutting or wounding the clone will shock it and reduce it's viability.
you might like to try cloning straight into the coco as it is quite easy :)

Its so easy. I get roots in about a week and new vegetation a week after that. So in two weeks you can go from cutting to flower.

I remove all lower fan leaves/branches, then snip the top two fan leaves in half. Removing lower fan leaves and clipping the top couple of fan leaves in half reduces the loss of water due to transpiration. Clipped cuttings seem to hold up better during the rooting process and most are showing new growth in 2 weeks.

duck,
This https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=187029&highlight=Slowandeasy
is the thread for you.

I bought a heating pad and thermostat, rooting gel, tall dome, and used 9 oz clear cups. The clear cups are put inside colored 9 oz cups. I mist the inside of the dome twice a day, and keep the thermostat set on 80.

I soak the coco thoroughly with 1/2 strength transition mix with Ca and Mg, then forcefully squeeze out excess liquid. Feed/water mother an hour before taking cuttings. Each cut has a node above the 45 degree angle slice [node gets gelled and goes under coco]. When possible take cut from low on the plant. You won't need to water before roots appear, provided you're misting the dome twice a day. Don't mist plants unless they wilt, and only mist the ones that are wilted.

Out of about 40 cuts, only the one I physically damaged by dropping it on the floor, didn't root. One Sadhu rooted in 4 days. Most take 7-10.

I'll never wash, sterilized, rinse, and dry my aero cloner again. It is dry docked. BTW, as a test, I watered 3 of them after a week. It took them a week longer to root.

Also I give them 18hrs, and low light is best. I'm using 1 24" T-5 over a standard tray and dome with paper towel on top of the dome. buena suerte.

when cloning into coco what are people using for nutrients?

Just their regular feeding at a lower concentration? and if so ~ what EC?

sorry. coco noob here.

I water with plain R.O. water one time. It takes about 10 days for roots. I don't ph the water for cloning or flushing anymore as there has been no difference in my tests. :)

Haha, I wish I knew this last night. Just went through pHing a few gallons of water to flush my plants. You still run pHed nutrient solution through after the flush to buffer the pH again correct?

I personally start off my clones in the aero cloner, then I pop them in small pot's of soil for a few weeks then into the coco. I don't have a proper drip feed coco setup for small plants yet but this way works great for me.

i'm still more then happy with the old asioned way to clone in rw cubes in mini greenhouses. the roots will take to the coco, they don't show any medium change shock. just place the cube on to coco and water the plants will grow roots down into the coco.

i find the secret to success with making clones is cutting the last cut underwater, since i use a soup plate of tap water to do my final cut under water i have 100% success rate. while before i always lost a good 25% of the clones. either that or its the rhizopon AA rooting hormone tablets. im using nowadays lol.

imo if you plan to reuse the coco, which one should do at least 3 times, then it's well worth setting the ph for the flush, this way the water in the coco will have the right ph for when you replant. also you are flushing so that the roots use whats left in the medium, they can do this much better at the normal ph. sure it will flush the medium even with no ph correction. but the plants will have a harder time making use of the last nutrients available.

awesome, thanks. my grower buddy said the same thing...but he said 2 t5's , 24 inches....under the sink will do fine without a heating pad. but i have one just incase. so you dont place the clones in rockwool cubes first, root, then in coco? also, you dont water the what, coco? just mist the top of the dome inside? i thought it's good to keep the rockwool or whatever you are using, a big damp to generate root growth. that are you dipping your cuts into for root growth? sorry for all the questions lol
