How Much Sunlight Do Seedlings Need?

I have a couple of seedlings that are a couple of weeks old and two more that should pop out of the soil soon. I have them in their pots on my balcony where they are getting a couple of hours of direct sunlight each day. The weather here is 70's during the day and I'm tempted to put them in my patio where they can get at least 6 hours but I dont want to burn them.

more sunlight is better. if you are giving them as much as you can already then well thats all you can do. you just have to make sure that with seedlings you have a big enough root ball and enough medium so that the sun dosent dry it up within a few hours. for example, those little cell packs can go from soaking wet to bone dry in three hours of direct sun, so I would say make sure you have them in a pot the size of a beer cup at least.

check out the new growers forum and good luck

they will only really "burn" from too much light when they are too close to a hps or mh bulb sunlight is the best millions of years of evolution based around sunlight ya feel me? ripshot has it bang on aswell mate dont let em dry out sunlight is a killer at drying out small pots

I was going to post a thread with a similar question. I like to start my seedlings in my window so they get used to the natural sunlight as they are growing into small plants, getting ready to go outside.. The problem I have is my seedlings only get a few hours of direct sunlight in the early morning after-noon, but at least they are getting some sunlight almost all day..

The problem is that they stretch and start of lankier than I'd like.. I'd like to start them off as tiny bushes like they should be, should I just switch to flouros?

switching to flouros is an option but whats a lil strech when they have a whole season outside awaiting them

that's what I'm saying! :joint:
the only problem I have with stretch is that sometimes my youngins grow to the point of being just about visible from outside, you can see them if you look hard, but you really have to look.

other than that, when I plant them outside in their holes, their receiving a LOT more direct sunlight and usually fill in pretty quick. so it's probably better that I get them used to natural light and the light cycle than switch to flouros right?

well i would definately say that plants visible from the street are a security risk. its down to you to determin what kind of area you live in. the area i live in its a major fucking no no unless i wanna get robbed so mine are under flouro in a stealth box. but a couple years ago i lived in an area that was so quiet and full of oap's that my shit was jus done in the open in the garden. germin on patio table and growing all over the place even on the shed roof for the evening sun.... i was young and stupid back then though and wouldnt do it now lol
