another bust gets aid from power companies records during investigation

CHARLOTTE, NC - A Charlotte man and West Mecklenburg High School teacher was arrested after a significant increase in his power bill lead police to his south Charlotte home. According to a search warrant received early Wednesday, Christopher Jenis, 41, was growing and selling marijuana from his home off Rama Road when a caller advised police that illegal drug activity was occurring at the residence.
Police say after investigating they obtained a utility bill from Duke Energy with a high KWH usage that is consistent with the energy used in marijuana growing operations. Jenis was arrested Wednesday morning and faces several charges including Trafficking in Marijuana, Manufacturing/Creating Marijuana, Simple Possession, Maintaining Dwelling to Keep/Sell Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
He is being held at the Mecklenburg County jail on a $35,000 bond. Jenis, was a social studies teacher for West Mecklenburg High. For more on this story, stay tuned to FOX News @ Ten.

This all began from a neighbor yapping. But the bust was nonetheless aided by a power company employee snitching.

It did all begin cause the neighbor, but i wouldent say the power company employee snitched, the cops just obtained a bill which showed high usage

Poor guy, NC has the lowest paid teachers in the nation.

Be careful folks. Gladys Kravitz might be your neighbor.

No, they obtained it from the power company AFTER someone else reported it.
Correct. Therefore, unless you are suggesting they had a warrant to acquire electric records, the power company snitched.

How conversation should have gone:

oinker: We have reason to believe your client is doing xya. We'd like to have a peak at your clients private information.

Company laywers: K. Get a warrant.

Oinker: Fuuuuuuu

how conversation apparently went:

oinker: We have reason to believe your client is doing xya. We'd like to have a peak at your clients private information.

Company lawyer: Sure thing, master. Anything else? Perhaps a cold beverage?

its not a power employee snitching if the police request the information... THey have to give it up then.... if the employee called police out of the blue thats snitching....

how do you read that the power company snitched?,it clearly says that someone tipped the police off,who then ASKED the power company for records, lol and we wonder why we are all paranoid

They absolutely do not. A private company is under no legal obligation to provide customer information at the request of law enforcement. Only when presented with a signed warrant are they required to give any information.

I have read many cases where electric company legal teams told cops to fuck off and die until they got a warrant. In California, this is standard with PG&E.

The electric company cowered when questioned by the police, and provided very sensitive customer information when they were not legally obligated to do so. That is the embodiment of snitching.

Jrock , what a bogus title.
leo almost always has info before they obtain power records, same old shit. I think 90 percent of these power company snitch stories are bullshit. They just "aid in aquiring" a warrant. Which is much easier to get then most think.(a warrant that is)

Were you there?

Here's the way it probably went down. The neighbor snitched, which gave the law probable cause to get a warrant for the power records.....

I edited your title to fit the story......
