Hay smelling grass

Sup folks, Beanz here.
I made sure to save enough money to make my first indoor run worth while.I spent about $1200+seeds on a space 2.5ft x 2.5ft x 8ft and so far thing s are going really well. I'm on my third week of flower about to start the fourth on sunday.
So have an auto that's almost done. Yesterday I took a small lower branch to test it. Today I peeked at it just to make sure things are ok and when I smelled it, it's a little grassy/hay smelling. Keep in mind I didn't flush it since I'm just testing it.The leaves on the plant are still a healthy green which leads meto believe that its the chlorophyll not being washed out but I'm not sure.
How do I make sure that after putting all this time and effort into the grow, my pot doesn't smell like hay and taste like grass?

??? My cuts taste pretty close to the finished product. After the cure it just gets better. I dont have any hay/grass smells. Hay/grass smell to me sounds like extremely immature cannabis.

it just hasnt been cured properly or enough yet. My buds smell amazing on the plant when touched, but get that hay smell during drying/begining of cureing. do the stems snap on your buds, or just bend over? Place them in a mason jar or airtight container opening once or twice a day for a week and youll be good, of course after hanging them to dry for a couple days. any more than a week or two and it just gets better. you want temps around 60-75 and humidity about 50% when drying/cureing.

Hammerhead, all I was trying to say was..from reading this sentence from MrBeanz, instantly my mind goes to threads in the Harvest forum about " why my weed smells like hay".

And me being a noob and on my first grow, and what I thought was a okay job. The end product smelt like hay and tasted like grass.

And that link i posted was my fix for this.

I just assumed he was talkin about the end product smells and tastes after all the hard work.

Genetics Play a big role here. WHAT are the strains you got?

The strain is an Delicious Seeds Il DIavolo auto freebie.

for cure so u dont get the hay smell when curing...my first go, i did
fresh weed cut and sampled will give that hay-ish taste sometimes? That what you did right? Sampled a fresh cut?

Thanks for the link. I did take a fresh cut yesterday. I haven't sampled it yet, it's still drying. It just really smells grassy.

You might have something there. The description of the strain says it finishes in 60 days from seed, but to my eyes by looking at it under the microscope, it looks like it could go another 2-3 weeks easily. Thing is this is my first successful indoor grow and sometimes I second guess my experience. I took the sample cut because it said 60 days, I'm at day 62, maybe I'm wrong about it going another 2-3 weeks. But the trichomes look mostly clear with just a little cloud to them. So I took it just in case I was wrong.

when im drying it usually smells like hay after a day.it takes another 1 to 2 days for that smell to go away and then it is about time to jar up.there is a thread on here called a perfect cure everytime.check it out it is stickied in the harvesting section

Well it turns out I was wrong. I checked out the bud this morning; it was crispy to the touch but still obviously fresh. The stem had no snap, and it was impossible to break up the buds. When I tried to, strips of the stem peeled of with the flowers. None the less, I decided to smoke it because I didn't want to wait too long in case I was wrong. so I packed a bowl in the bong-o and started burning.
Firstly,I noticed that when I "broke" up the buds, there was a smell there so I assume it will return after a proper cure. Upon breaking it up, I notice a subtle smell of flowery-fruity-gym room socks n' underwear,
I took a rip, held it for a few seconds, then exhaled sloooowly out of my mouth and out of my nose to allow my body to absorb more THC through my mucus membranes. The smoke wen down smooth with a musky-mushroomy-earthy flavor. It tasted the way really good soil smells
I exhaled, coughed twice, and put the bong down to take in the effects. At first, I separated the sample I took into two portions cause I kinda felt guilty about smoking it today. I said I would wait, but caved in today (I'm happy I did now, but still..) and smoked it. Immediately after the first snap I took though, I was surprised cause I could tell right away that it was decent at leastbut I wasn't sure...
So I ran to my room an got the rest of the bud I was gonna save for another day. Now I was excited because I had been talking myself down, thinking my lack of experience was gonna mean my pot would be weak or not potent, but now things looked good.
The first bong hit gave me a head change right away, so I knew there was something there.
The next hit was a little bigger this time and I made sure to fill my lungs as much as possible. The smoke still went down and out smooth. A few seconds later I was coughing up a lung and very much stoned. I was delightfully surprised and excited with the results. Completely cerebral isn't my ideal high, but plant is done. I'm gonna let it go another week to flush it thoroughly and get that body lock I like. I'm not sure if it's 18% THC like they say but I was pleasantly stoned for an hour. Not bad for bud only dried for two days and not cured, and an auto to boot.

I wanted to correct my conclusions about Delicious Seeds cause I don't like to bash anyone that doesn't deserve it, and this plant/these seeds are average to slightly above average. I had a healthy, easy to grow plant that grew a nice 10" crystal covered terminal bud and pretty shiny ping-pong ball sized pop-corn branch buds.
So yeah, not bad. If you get the chance I'd say grow em.

The cons are few but mostly predictable so it shouldn't disappoint you too much:
They plant is very short. Mine only grew to 15" and side branching was minimal
This plant did not respond well to LST'ing
It's nutrient sensitive
It's kind of expensive

Well that's all for now. Thank's

I think that the only reason you are smelling that hay smell is because you need to cure the buds by putting them in mason jars, and open them once a day for about an hour.Eventually you will start to recognize that skunky smell you smelled while it was growing. The longer the buds remain in the jar the smoother yet more potent buds become.

This is just a theory, but maybe it smells like hay when it's drying because the chlorophyll is being washed out? And sure enough, when the chlorophyll is gone the smell returns.
