Percolation on glass tubes

I am thinking about buying some new glass. I currently have Illy's and a Pure. I really like having a clean bong, b/c you can really taste the weed. So, I have never bought a double chambered bong.

I here Toro is good, and they have these multi-arm percs. How is the drag, and are they easy to clean. The whole percolation and paying extra for the higher numbered arms seems like a gimmick. I hear people say that it cools the smoke down. But, wouldn't a standard bong w/ ice be better? Do you think it is worth it? Why should I pay more? What would you buy? Thanks.

i just bought a straight HI SI bong with no perks or diffusers....

best bong i have ever bought and i have damn every brand out.....

Hey there dude, Id say get something with a tree perc, 8 arms or more is good. It def makes a difference. Toros are smooth and rip great, if you want to save a few bucks though there are some other brands that function pretty just as well and are not quite as expensive.. have a good 420!

I like percs.. however if there is enough to look like Dr. Suess' fantasy land I usually have to pull too hard to feel comfortable.

The best way to clean the percs is to soak in

At another site, a respected member soaks his high-end glass in Simple Green.
I'll agree with Shcrews and I'm not even sure about diffusers. I much prefer using hot tap water, not ice.

a good glass-on-glass diffuser will increase the surface area of the smoke being filtered, providing a much smoother and cleaner hit than a straight downstem.

also less chance of getting water in your mouth.. then again, some prefer the CHUG CHUG of a straight downstem over the "fizz" of a diffuser

if a bong is a car, then a diffuser is a turbo and a perc is a spoiler.

I am a fan of the standard Roor 16-hole diffuser, honorable mention for the U.S. Tubes Vented diffy, if you can find one... then a

If you agree that a diffuser helps cool the smoke by increasing surface area, how can you call a perc a gimmick? It works by the same exact principle...

you beat me too it. I was just going to say that is one of the oddest things to say. That was a level of flip-flopping worthy of a politician.

If I were to recommend a tube it would be Toro after trying most brands of pipe I found Toro to be the most drag free percs wether it's disk/circ/treeless/8 arm/13 arm or inline they all rock!

That's a damn fine collection of glass you have there. I see you got that electroplated bong (or however its made). Man, you should take out insurance on those things.

cant go wrong with a toro if your dropping that kind of money. But also like the one guy mentioned you cant go wrong with a quality straight tube with a showerhead diffuser or any quality diffuser.

I got an 11 arm perc on my "king" tube, Haven't seen that brand around but hell its thick as shit and hits like a champ.

diffuser downstems is part of bonghitsu 101 imo.

not at all, the alternative to a diffuser is, a normal downstem...
the alternative to a perc is... NO PERC.

why do you need two levels of filtration? just get a good glass on glass diffuser, skip the perc, and enjoy all the freedom of an unrestricted chamber

perc lovers are cool with me, but just saying it's overkill IMO

Multiple levels of filtration equals a cooler/cleaner smoke, the same as a diffuser splitting the smoke to allow water to reach a greater surface area. Good quality percs (Sovereignty, Toro, Luke Wilson etc etc) have virtually no drag (restriction). I thought exactly the same way as you do until I had tried multiple variations of perc. Dome percs (old PHx Style) & anything less than a 7 arm tree perc will have drag restrictions IMO

damn i feel old. wtf is a perc, and why is it in my bong?

old school days wed make our own bongs out of a trippy flower vase and a glass slider...and what we'd bought in the head shop didnt look like that.

not bashing it or anything, because I dont even know what it does...mostly im just saying, who comes up with this stuff and why now?
