I never hit anyone's car door but I was parked at a casino when an elderly woman just turned into a spot and took off my mirror while I was chillin with a few homies waiting for the gf's to come out after a fun filled night of spend less and drink more at the local casino! The woman's license was not renewed for over 12 years and she was 76 I felt bad for her until I received 2 estimates to replace my electric defrost mirror for an escalade and my feeling bad for her went by faster then smoke out of a bong freshly lite...

I've run into car doors on my bike when some asshole doesn't look before opening and traps me between traffic and his fat, parked ass. It's a good way to end up hospitalized. Never tapped another car with my door though, since until recently I'd never driven. I like smaller cars too so I don't really have an opportunity to hit someone's car in a micromachine.

You may not like the laws as written but it's no excuse to cuss out someone in the right. I hope you realize that you're the asshole responsible for hitting an open door, you are supposed to be in control at all times & anticipate any opening doors. YOU on the bicycle have the same responsibilities as ME a car driver who would also be at fault for hitting someones door as you describe.

haha yeah I just came back because it occurred to me that the title wasn't specific enough..

I've hit cars a couple of times, but never left a mark.

this weekend, the wind blew away my door, and boom..

it was a new black car, so it's pretty visible, and it's not just a paint scratch, I saw a bump

I parked my car further away so that the person couldn't do 1+1, felt bad about it, I later saw the people and it was a nice looking lady that was driving it

If I had money I would have offered to pay for it..

Damn that's kinda messed up man. I know you're broke but just leave em a note and apologize at least.

My situation doesn't fit any of the choices. I had this beat up old Mazda truck years ago. I had a habit of just leaving it in gear and not setting the parking brake. One day the wind was blowing really gusty. Hard enough to rock that little truck every time it gusted.

After an hour or so of rocking, it popped out of gear (I tested the theory by rocking it myself, and it would pop out of gear after rocking it 4 or 5 times). After popping out of gear, it was pushed 2 or 3 feet by the wind into a coworkers car.

The wind kept blowing, and it kept bashing the side of the car. It banged up the drivers door pretty good. The owner came to me and told me my truck was beating up her car. I went outside, and sure enough, every time the wind gusted, my truck would bang into her car.

I apologized and set the parking brake. I then told her to have it fixed and give me the bill. She shopped around, got a couple estimates and went with one she was comfortable with. She gave me the bill 2 weeks later and I gave her around $300 cash

I always try to never hit another car with my door. So when I do its generally pretty light. A small paint scuff that I generally wipe off and drive away. This has also another reason I park in the back of the lot and walk a little further. Not only that, but the extra walking wont kill anyone.

I drive a nice car and no, I don't EVER ding other people doors.

Funny story:

I used to have a really nice 5.0 Mustang (show car) and one day i was sitting in it at the supermarket when some dude parked alongside me and threw his door right into the side. I hopped out and hollered at him, and he just shrugged and walked away. Really?

I waited for him to go inside, and then proceeded to drive my knee into his door until it was about a foot-deep dent. His car was a POS so it probably didn't faze him, but MAN it felt good.

FUCK YOU DOUCHEBAG!

If anybody dings my current car I'll have a cow, whole thing is made of aluminum which is damn near impossible to massage out dents. Please don't post your guesses as to what it is, thanks.
