New to growing! How long should I flush? Is two weeks long enough, I don't want chemical taste, plus I want good burning weed, AK-47 hempy buckets!:plant grow:

I look at it like this. As the trichomes start to shift from clear to mostly cloudy, but before any amber are present, I'll begin running very low level nutrients. Just enough to maintain the right ratios in the media, but low enough that it is under .3ec

I'll run this until I see most of the clear trichomes gone.

Since coco is a hydroponic media with a very high CEC you can utilize this property to leech elements from the plant into the media. During the last 3 to 5 days before harvest I will run clean water through the planters, about 2 liters of run off per gallon of media, and I will do this every day. This will drop the electrical charge in the media forcing elements to flow out of the plant into the media in order to establish equilibrium. Once balanced (after about 24 hours) you rinse it out again. The repetition of this process, 3 or 4 times, really cleans the plant out in the same way you would detox yourself.

Then it is just a waiting game. I'll wait and watch the trichomes and probably not water again. It'll be just 2-3 days after the final rinse and the media should have more or less dried out and the plants entered that very last phase of life.

If you REALLY want clean bud you can take a bit of your harvest and water cure it. This removes nearly all the contaminants and leaves little more than a white ash when burned. The taste and smell are gone, and the weight is less, but the smoke is totally potent. A kind of stealth weed that is clean of all fertilizers. I do about 1/4 of my harvest as a water cure for personal use. Works to reduce contaminants in the trim used for hash making also.

I use Hempy buckets also, 5 gal.. with perlite on the bottom and coco for the rest.. I think that the perlite is almost impossible to flush all the nutrients from in this setup..
even after 3 weeks of just water I only get moderate leaf yellowing..so I guess it depends on your medium also.. Peace!

10-14 days with GH FloraKleen to remove nutrient salts and my stuff burns to a white ash.

i took a bubba kush early for some meds and it only had a 4 day flush. the ash will be grey, not too bad but better than street meds.

Thank you all, I see 14 days is what I'll run with, supersilver haze, do you think that the chemical flush agent adds any taste if not I'll try that next!
I couldn't help myself I took a little of the AK-47 to "try" it, good & it burn't kinda! Peace out!:plant grow:

Supersilverhaze does the flora clean impart any chemical taste?

So far in 3rd run... actually 4th run of coco and have found that flushing in coco for at least 10-14 days like everyone saying in here is true. One thing have done some research on for myself is when flushing changing my ph from 5.7-5.8 up to 6.0 or even 6.1 Seems that the plant will uptake more p&k from this chart j.c. has. If you notice in the pic, posted you can see that 5.7-5.8 is preferred for most mj in hydro/coco all the way till you take away those nutes. Then raise ph up to 6.0 for flush, buds get bigger/denser and flavor kicks ass!....imo.

i flush about 7-10 days using BC Nutes, and enjoy tasty clean smoke. i only use 3/4 str. nutes and dripclean, so that may lessen flush time.

I don't expect people to follow my lead, but I'm starting to wonder if a flush is even necessary for a hydro run. I'm starting to think that moderating nutrient levels throughout flowering (use only as much as the plant needs), is more important to a smooth flavor than a flush at the end of the plant's cycle.

I completely agree with feeding plants only what they need, I run very low ppm's and feed only to maintain those low ppm's

When I take small cuts off during flower (usually pruning larf) and sometimes just to get a taste of a new strain, the smoke is very nice as long as it's dried slowly..

I still believe in a flush using hydro even with the low ppm's..

Pot size can effect flush time. I test the run-off every night while flushing. The smaller the pot, the faster it flushes. That being said, I usually do 10 days on smaller pots and 12-14 on larger pots and Smart Pots(the fabric holds salts). I could prolly do my smaller pots at a 7 days, but I do not mind a few more days.
