Been running these cabs for a few months now, just getting towards chopping time, reckon it's about time i started a journal here/share my cab with the community that's taught me so much! Thanks guys/gals!
My veg cab's in one of these: http://www.sterilite.com/SelectProd...=Specifications&ProductCategory=242§ion=6
Nothing fancy going on there, presently cramming as many little plants in there as possible pheno hunting, along with my little fig and juniper trees.
Pretty basic, 65 watt flourex for vegging, 15 watt tube for clones, 8 inch louver for intake, exhausted by a td 100x on low, little zen style carbon filter... 'bout it.
Flowering cab is the larger size cab same brand:http://www.sterilite.com/SelectProd...=Specifications&ProductCategory=242§ion=6
Been tweaking it here and there, if i did it all over again i would definitely move the louver i have up a little bit, perhaps put another one in too, maybe mount them on the front like Petemoss (think i spelled it right) did on his cab, but for stealth purposes it works well this way sacrificing the added airflow in the canopy.
Only using the lower half of this cab at the moment. Using the top shelf for misc crap storage, middle shelf holds the ballast for the hps and will eventually be a little drying chamber.
Currently only 1 8 inch louver for intake, will be doubling this once the plants nearing harvest are chopped, feeling like it could use some more intake.
Lighting is currently a 150 watt hps and two 42 watt 2700k CFLs, has changed a few times in the past few months, started out with six 42 watt cfls, wanted to do a comparison between 252 watt CFL and 150 watt hps, just figured to bolster the likely shitty first run yields i'd hit em with all the light i can (just rigged it up like this today, cfls added 3 degrees to the temp of the cab, but an extra 1700 lumens can't hurt i reckon. also remote ballasted the hps (well moved the ballast above the shelf in an effort to reduce heat, think the glass in the fixture held some of the heat in, was maxing out at 85 degrees before, now it's 88, gonna play around with the fan speed/ambient temp a bit and i'm sure i can lose those three degrees by tomorrow.
Cooled by a 265 cfm blower, controlled running at bout 3/4 speed, a little less than stealth thankfully there's a lot of ambient noise where i live so it's not a problem at all. Would like to build an isolation chamber eventually for it, but i'm a lot more concearned covering the motor on a squirrel cage fan than a can fan for some reason, that thing gets hot as it is, don't want it to bust on me! Ideas/experience would be nice. For now it's a non issue though, just a fleeting thought of a stealthier system.
Using the same type of scrubber on this cab too, have 2 new ones ready to go at all times, if i smell ANYTHING i replace it, prob just a shift in humidity, but these little filters are fickle at times, granted i push rather than pull... i know, i know, i'll experiment later with the 150 watt placement and perhaps i'll afford myself the room to use two filters or just perhaps one on the inside. As of the lighting system redesign today i tried a filter on the inside and i was just sketched out having pantyhose like an inch from a 150 watt bulb, probably being overly cautious, but i don't need no stinking fires!
Currently running 6 inch square pots, plant size is pretty good fairly even canopy for a staggered harvest, the most sat dom plant i have was a little too tall for the old lighting system, now with bare bulb i should get better lighting to it, and it's headroom is increased a good 6+inches. Most of the seeds i have to play around with are sats so it was a necessary issue to correct.
Think i've yapped enough for now, too many people to thank for invaluable information, may my first toke off these trees be in your honor. I'm sure i've left stuff out, would love some feedback!
Cheers
