A noob on a mission

Hey IC,

I'm doing my first indoor grow this season, with a 400 watt light and a lot of Moxy!
I made the noob move of ordering four different strains for my first grow, and I'm kinda paying for it now. One of them has a large terminal bud that is outgrowing the canopy and screwing up where the light should be. But I digress,

For my next cycle, I wanna know if you know any two or three different strains, that grow fairly similar. Have similar nute req's and finish around the same time?

I would really love to be more professional and only grow one strain to perfection, but I tolerant quickly and I just don't have the room to grow the Hazes I so love (I have 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 8 ft of grow space, if there are any hazes you think I could grow in there please tell me). I only grow for personal smoke and I'd at least like to have a daytime smoke and and a night-time smoke. So please, what do you think?

Finding 4 different strains that all have the same light, nutes and finish times in your particular environment is going to be a challenge.

Here is what I would do.

Mix up a basic organic soil recipe so you only have to water. This takes care of the different nutes.

Select different strains that have similar finishing times and amount of stretch

Run them in a scrog set up. You put a screen over the canopy at your desired height and then train the plants to stay underneath it until after the third week of flower when the plants have stopped stretching (growing vertically).

Hope this helps.

Plants of different heights and ages are not a big deal. When I have tall and short plants and want to even out my canopy I put the short plants on top of a couple of paint cans.

Depending on how you grow different nutrients requirements may not be a big deal either. I grow organic in a fairly rich soil. Most of my fertilization is done via top dressing with dry fertilizers. If there is a plant that needs more I just spoon more stuff on. With organics there is a larger margin for error due to the time release nature of the fertilizers and the fact that the plant has a role in regulating uptake.

With training and the correct light spectrum (MH or CMH through the stretch) you can grow anything you like in that amount of space. I've grown a bunch of stretchy sativas - Kali Mist, Super Silver Haze, Island Sweet Skunk, and a 15 week Dutch Dragon (a Durban hybrid). All were vegged for 6 weeks plus and all finished under 1 meter from the top of pots.

Some sativas for you (from L to R: Dutch Dragon, Island Sweet Skunk, Super Silver Haze, and Kali Mist). All were grown in a 30"(wide) X 24.5" (deep) x 5.5' (high) cab with at least 2 other plants.

Man those are some nice sativas. I'm gonna look into growing some a little better. I've always wanted to grow Mr. Nice's Super Silver Haze.
The idea of top dressing dry organic fertilizer is a really good idea too. Since I use soil already, it wouldn't be hard to switch to dry fertilizer.
