Can We Please Stop Calling It "Medical Marijuana"?

Don't doubt the medical benefits.
I use it for arthritis, and nothing works better.
But calling it "marijuana" bothers me.
It is a slang term from Mexico, and it is the term used by those who originally demonized it.
Why not "medical cannabis"?
After all, that is the proper name for it.
Why go with the demonized name?
Cannabis just sounds better, is the proper name, and gives it more of an aura of legitimacy.

I agree with you. I do not refer to cannabis in any way but what it is. Unfortunately the name has stuck with it. I doubt it will ever change. The more people that change the better our chances are that cannabis would be used.

Never have understood people who get so worked up about the name used to describe pot. Yeah, I said it, pot. I've called it pot for the nearly 10 years I've smoked it, just like the old hippies I learned from growing up. Sorry if that raises your ire, I just don't see how it's such a big deal. We as a community have way more important shit to worry about, like how pathetic of an excuse for "compassionate care" MMJ as it currently stands actually is...

I always thought the term "medical" marijuana was bull shit. As if it is different than any other cannabis..I believe that the entire MMJ debate is a clever way for the powers that be to keep us all boxed in. JMO
As long as we continue to be baited into the debate of whether or not is has medical value, we foolishly ignore the real issue. Should it be illegal period? No one should be more entitled to use cannabis because they have a "medicinal" use, people that use it for recreation are no less entitled than anyone else. No ones reason is more important or better than anyone else's. I have 2 recs, but no longer live in CA, guess that makes me an outlaw since where I live now MMJ does not exist. Call it whatever you want, cannabis, dope, pot, weed, medicine, whatever, it's all just words.

It has a negative stigma attached to it by those that outlawed it. I think it's time to reject that, and educate those who oppress us. Yes, there are many slang terms for cannabis, which I have used myself. But why go with the negative stereotype? We are supposed to be more enlightened than our oppressors. Yeah, when you are with buddies, it doesn't matter, but on a public forum, or in any meetings with officialdom, or in any pro-cannabis rallies, or whenever one of us is quoted by the media, I believe we should call it what it is: cannabis. It helps to educate those who are against us, and helps to negate the lies they have been spewing for years. It demonstrates their ignorance.
