Seeking opinions in OD soil situation

The time is here once again for another beautiful season here in the NE :jump: Today was really my first day of getting supplies, etc, maybe even starting to crack a few seeds later.

I have a plan/goal of maybe 20ish plants grown organically, eventually going in the ground in a few areas that are pretty similar.. In prior years I have only grown 5 or less plants, even indoors I've only grown maybe 10 small ones at most. First year was in-ground with 4 large plants vegged indoors for a few months, just promix and MG and maybe some more approved bloom fert. Last year was promix bx in 5 gallon containers, 5 plants. I really like it, but seems to need alot of additives for things to get going. Mostly just added WC and some topdressed guano with regular feedings last year, less than amazing results.

Anyway, to end the rambling.... here's my situtation:
1) Pro-mix all the way, 3.8cf bale, basically doing the same as last year, with some guano and (more) EC added, nothing fancy. Relatively cheap, easy, etc. But would need additives that can add up to a decent amount of money.

2) Roots organic/ FF with all the stuff already added, more expensive, but has the extra stuff I would like in it already, (kelp, alfalfa, etc etc). Roots was $20/1.5cf, the promix bx about $40/3.8cf. FF HF $20/2cf other FF about $22/1.5cf

3) Mixture of above and others? Aka, promix plus 2-3 cf of straight coco. Still cheap, still simple, convenient, but relatively inert/lacking certain things(?) Definitely a good amount of medium per $$. Or something like promix+Roots organic/FF, or even growing some in FF/Pro/Scotts moisture control (all separate) I know the SCotts 2.5cf bag is on sale for $3.50 or so at work.

Hopefully this all makes sense, feel free to ask whatever! I ended up buying Roots for now to get stuff started but will need additional soil.... Will be adding humus/manure, perlite and EWC as needed as well... What would you do????

Thanks in advance!

Dang thats expensive for FF, but I guess I'm kinda spoiled living so close to where its made.
I guess you gotta decide if its gonna be cheaper to go with the promix and spend more on additives, or just get what you need from the start.
I personally would go with a combination. Get some promix for the bulk, and add the coir, FF, and even the scotts if its cheap and doesnt contain any nasties (pesticides, etc). If its available I'd even suggest some chicken and horse manure to blend in, they're chock full of good nutrients, you just gotta blend and let them cool for 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for the input guys. Maybe I'm being a little OCD about everything. I do have some high P guano already, but it isn't the cheapest thing. Was looking into the chicken manure too.
Best of luck to you as well jay-toker

Check farm and garden section of Craigslist. I found great local manure and compost sources, most of it free for the hauling...
